Celeste and Augustus sat listening to music on their way to the party. Augustus sang along while tapping the steering wheel, seemingly cheerful.
But Celeste didn't buy it.
She could see the tension in his shoulders, the lines of his lips, the way he half-leaned against the chair.
She didn't know what they were hiding in that illegal basement, but she doubted it was wine.
Perhaps something much more sinister, like explosives or dangerous chemicals.
These people had a lab that made dangerous drugs; she wouldn't be surprised if they also had a supporting storage unit hidden somewhere in the house.
But that aside, Celeste already knew they tested and stored the drugs there—they didn't make them there. So why did Augustus look so scared for her?
Almost as if he needed to get her out of that house over some storage?
What was in there that was so bad?
