Ailson's POV
Ailson stood in front of the mirror in her room, her reflection smiling back at her with satisfaction.
Everything was falling into place. She could feel Eragon weakening, slowly succumbing to her charms. She had always known it would be difficult,he wasn't like other men, too honorable, too stubborn, but she had chipped away at his defenses enough to know he was wavering. She was certain of it.
It was only a matter of time before he realized that Gloria was nothing compared to her. Gloria might have been born into power, but Ailson had ambition.
And that ambition would lead her to everything she wanted: Eragon, status, and control.Tonight, she would make her final move.
She had been patient long enough. She picked up her phone, texting Eragon.
"Meet me at the overlook. I have something to show you."Eragon replied almost immediately.
"Sure.Be there in an hour."Ailson smiled. Perfect.
Eragon's POV
As he read Ailson's message, Eragon felt his heart rate increase.
The overlook,of course she would choose that spot. It was remote, secluded, and the perfect place for her to make whatever move she had been planning.
He had to keep his composure. This was the moment they had been waiting for.
Eragon texted Gloria, letting her know the plan. She would be nearby, watching from a distance, ready to intervene if things got out of hand.
Their trap was almost set.He left his house, the cool night air chilling his skin as he made his way to the overlook.
It wasn't long before he spotted Ailson standing by the edge, her back to him, the wind tugging at her long hair.
She turned when she heard him approach, a seductive smile on her lips."I'm glad you came," she said, her voice low and inviting.
Eragon kept his expression neutral.
"What did you want to show me?"
Ailson stepped closer, her eyes gleaming. "Not something. Someone."Before he could react, Ailson snapped her fingers.
The air around them shimmered, and suddenly, the ground trembled.
From the shadows, a hulking figure emerged,a massive, dark creature, more fearsome than the dypent she had summoned before. It was a soul-harvester, its eyes glowing with the promise of death.
Eragon tensed, his muscles coiled, ready for a fight. "What is this?""Insurance," Ailson purred, her voice dripping with malice.
"I know you've been playing me, Eragon. You and Gloria. You think I don't see it, but I do. I've known all along."Eragon's blood ran cold. She had known?
"Did you really think you could outsmart me?" Ailson sneered.
"I'm not some weak witch you can manipulate. I'm stronger than all of you combined, and now, you'll see just how powerful I am.
"Before she could summon the creature to attack, a blast of magic hit her from behind, knocking her off balance. Gloria appeared, stepping out of the shadows, her eyes glowing with fierce determination.
"You're not as smart as you think," Gloria said, her voice steady. "We've been waiting for this moment."
Ailson "???"
