Chapter 1 - 1.The Bridge Ambush

The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and rusted metal as Ath stood at the edge of the bridge, her heart pounding in rhythm with the distant sound of footsteps echoing behind her. Clad in a loose-fitting hoodie and baggy cargo pants, she blended into the shadows, a ghost among the remnants of the old city. The evening sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a warm, orange hue across the scene, yet Ath felt an icy chill run down her spine.

Four boys emerged from the shadows, members of a local gang, their laughter ringing through the air like a sinister melody. They swaggered forward, clearly convinced of their dominance, oblivious to the storm brewing just beneath the surface. Ath could feel their eyes on her, sizing her up, but she stood her ground, muscles tense and ready for the confrontation that was about to unfold.

"Hey! What's a little runt like you doing here all alone?" one of the boys taunted, stepping closer. His tone dripped with arrogance, and the others snickered in agreement.

Ath's breath steadied as she regarded them coolly, an unsettling calmness enveloping her. "Just passing through," she replied, her voice steady, betraying none of the adrenaline coursing through her veins.

The gang members exchanged glances, their smirks faltering for just a moment. They hadn't anticipated her defiance. "You think you're tough?" another boy chimed in, his bravado wavering. "You should know better than to mess with us."

In a flash, the atmosphere shifted. With a swift motion, Ath pivoted, launching herself into action. She was a blur, her movements honed from years of training and street fights. The first boy lunged at her, but she ducked low, dodging his grasp. In one fluid motion, she swept her leg, knocking him off balance and sending him crashing into the railing of the bridge.

The remaining three surged forward, a wave of aggression. Ath didn't flinch. She pivoted, landing a powerful kick that sent another boy sprawling backward. The remaining two, now realizing they had underestimated her, hesitated for a heartbeat. It was a fatal mistake.

With a fierce determination, Ath closed the distance. Her fists connected with the third boy's jaw, sending him reeling, while her elbow met the fourth's gut. They were relentless, but so was she. Each strike was calculated, fueled by a mix of adrenaline and the desire to prove herself.

As the fight raged on, a sense of exhilaration coursed through her. This was her world, a domain where she was in control, where her past could not reach her. In the chaos, she noticed a figure lingering in the distance—Jax, watching the battle unfold with an intensity that felt both foreign and familiar.

His presence was a reminder that she wasn't entirely alone, even if he remained a silent spectator for now.

The last boy fell to the ground, gasping for breath, and with that, the fight came to an abrupt halt. Ath stood tall, chest heaving, surveying the scene before her. The bridge, once a mere passage, now bore witness to her strength.

Jax stepped forward, the silence between them charged with unspoken words. He was an enigma, a reflection of everything Ath had ever wanted—a connection that felt both dangerous and inviting. But for now, she would hold onto the mystery, keeping her identity shrouded in shadows, as she always had.

With a final glance at the fallen gang members, Ath slipped away into the night, her heart still racing. The bridge would remember her, even if the world didn't.
