Chereads / Knight of DC / Chapter 27: My Name is Wanderer

Chapter 27: My Name is Wanderer

Breaking News: Last night, the police conducted a raid on three companies suspected of harboring illegal goods after receiving an anonymous tip-off. A large cache of heavy weaponry and a series of data related to human trafficking were discovered. It's hard to believe such darkness lurks in Nasinor City. Eyewitnesses reported that the Nightwing, Robin, and Kamen Rider were involved in the takedown of these warehouses. Stay tuned for more updates from our reporters.

Inside the classroom, Kaito Haruno, who had been brutally beaten by the Super Soldier the previous night, lay slumped on his desk, staring at the news report on the TV. The system had coldly reminded him that his skills were only enough to deal with Super Soldiers, barely above the basic level of power in the DC world. If he encountered a major player, it would be game over for him. So, rather than feeling proud of the heroic actions reported on television, Kaito felt anxious, pondering whether he should keep a low profile to avoid attracting revenge.

"Go ahead and report on it. You'll have plenty of news to cover in the future." He muttered to himself before getting up from his desk and stepping outside for some fresh air. Checking his phone, he saw it was already eleven o'clock. Dick must have taken Damian back to the quaint Gotham City by now. With that thought, Kaito immersed himself in the system space, eager to ask the system something.

"System, can I transfer the items I've acquired to others?"

"Except for the knight forms and transformation items redeemed by the host, all other auxiliary items can be freely transferred at the host's discretion."

"Including the three-color Haki training system?" Kaito felt a surge of excitement. If he could gift the three-color Haki, then he could hand it over to the Bat, creating an army of superheroes. He could then relax and do nothing.

"Yes, but I do not recommend that course of action." Before Kaito could ask further, the system continued, "While the three-color Haki is fundamentally based on human physiology and should theoretically be able to be cultivated, the human constitution in the DC world differs from that of the Pirate world. The latter has effectively unlocked the human genetic locks, while the DC world has not. Therefore, if the host wishes to transfer the three-color Haki, it will likely result in massive fatalities with no other beneficial effects."

The system's explanation extinguished Kaito's desire to gift the three-color Haki to the Bat. However, he was still curious to see the Bat using it to smash Super Dog's head. It seemed that wouldn't be possible. "Alright, alright, no need for further explanation. Just give me 10,000 points and help me exchange for some canned goods from the three-egg set—land, sea, and air. Exchange as many as you can."

With 10,000 points, Kaito acquired 50 cans of flying eagles, locusts, and octopus robots, all stored in the system space. Looking at these items, he thought he needed to find a reliable courier to deliver them to Gotham. After all, there was no fast logistics like Shunfeng Express here, which made shipping a hassle. "Ugh, I can't just go to Gotham myself. The water there is too deep; one slip and I could drown." He mumbled helplessly, realizing that figuring out a delivery method had become a significant problem.

"Gotham? Kaito, are you planning to visit Gotham during the holiday? That's not a good place." A familiar voice chimed in beside him. Looking over, he saw the two sisters approaching, and Kaito felt a headache coming on. Why were they always coming over? Did they see through everything?

Indeed, it was Kara and Emil, the two sisters who had yet to debut. For some reason, they had been keen on chatting with Kaito lately. He preferred to avoid them, but he hadn't noticed their approach while engrossed in conversation with the system.

"Uh, could you repeat that? I don't recall saying anything about going to Gotham during the holidays. By the way, why are you two always looking for me to chat? Do I look like I have a lot of free time?"

Kaito had completely zoned out during class, unaware of what was happening. He directly asked, bewildered that these sisters were seeking him out. Did he really come across as such a nice guy?

"The summer vacation starts next week, and everyone's thinking about how to spend it—whether to hang out together or look for internships. Also, as guys go, you're the easiest to get along with. Compared to the group of clingy boys who always follow us, we find it more comfortable chatting with you~" Emil said, shrugging.

Kaito glanced at the group of boys huddled behind the sisters, occasionally glancing their way. Sighing, he showed his lack of interest in competing for attention with them. "First off, I really appreciate your attention, ladies, but I'm not interested in being your shield. So, see ya." Ignoring their somewhat forlorn expressions, Kaito swiftly left. The boys, noticing his quick departure, hurriedly gathered around the sisters again.

Phew~ After distancing himself from Kara and Emil, Kaito felt the pressure easing. Having a Supergirl nearby was quite intimidating for someone like him, who was still at the bottom of the power scale. He hadn't expected that just by being an obedient wallflower, he'd attract Kara's notice. That was enough. "Summer vacation, huh? I almost forgot I still have that benefit. But speaking of which, Nightwing took Robin and ran away. Should I still continue fighting crime?"

Kaito was inherently lazy; as long as the system didn't assign him tasks, he was the type to casually intervene if he saw a crime but wouldn't bother otherwise. No crime, no reason to skip home and sleep. Resting was far more important than earning points. As a laid-back player, Kaito had long since come to terms with everything. Maybe it was the system in his mind that had seen through his true nature. Before he could escape the rare absence of a task, the system issued him a new one.

[Task Name: Urban Legend—Path of the Knight. Kamen Riders are not just warriors who guard the peace of a city; they are fighters who protect human freedom. Task requirement: The host must visit at least four cities and leave behind their name as a crime-fighter in each city. Task time limit: Three months. Task evaluation will depend on the host's situation.]

What the hell! After hearing the system's task requirements, Kaito was completely at a loss for words. He had been thinking that with the summer vacation coming, he'd just find some gangs in Nasinor City to knock around, and if that didn't work, he could stay home and enjoy being a couch potato. But the system just handed him a task to wander outside. Wasn't that playing with his life?! Going out for fun requires money! And to make matters worse, he had to go alone. If his parents didn't approve, wouldn't he be in big trouble?!

Damn it! In this day and age, even being a couch potato was targeted. Was there no justice left? Kaito felt a headache coming on from the system's task, thinking that perhaps this was the consequence of his earlier dismissive attitude toward the girls.

Waking up one morning, Kaito was surprised to see several big names making donations, leaving him astounded. Thanks to book friend Special Effects Fan for the 2000 points donation, and to book friend MRHoratio for the 1000 points donation. Your support is my greatest motivation!!!
