In the dark, all was quiet. The cold evening breeze swept in through the open glass doors of the balcony. There wasn't any light in the room, but the full moon bathed the night in its soft glow. A slim figure sat silently, lost in thought, staring up at the sky. She was mesmerized by the stars painting the heavens. Unbeknownst to her, a shadow slipped into the room.
"It really is a beautiful night," she whispered to herself.
A smile crossed her lips. "It's nice that Grandma Nunu came around. I wouldn't be having such a peaceful moment if Mom and Dad weren't busy keeping her company." She chuckled softly, shifting her weight as she crossed her right leg over her left and absentmindedly brushed her hand over her silver hair.
"I bet she's giving them enough trouble. They haven't called me in over two hours." Her smile grew wider. "Maybe if I had a sibling, they'd shift their attention, and I could finally breathe."
She laughed quietly at the thought and stood up, leaning against the balcony railing. The garden below danced in the wind, the flowers in full bloom, their fragrance rising to greet her. She inhaled deeply, savoring the familiar scent of her favorite blossoms.
"This night is so perfect," she murmured. "I love spring the most, but winter has its own charm. I wish every day was like this." Her smile faltered, and a frown creased her brow. "But alas, it's just a wish. I must step into my parents' shoes one day. Such heavy, exhausting responsibilities…"
She sighed. "Still, there are worse fates. Plenty of people would kill to be in my position. Being the daughter of two billionaires definitely has its perks." She giggled, shaking her head at the thought.
Alone on the balcony, she found comfort in talking to herself and the sky. With no friends and no relatives her age, she'd grown accustomed to keeping her own company.
Feeling a sudden thirst, she reached for the glass of wine she'd sneaked out of the cellar. As she took a sip, a cold, sharp sensation touched the back of her neck, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Don't move or make a sound," a voice whispered behind her, close enough that she could feel his breath on her ear. "Nothing will stop your end tonight."
Fear gripped her heart as the blade pressed tighter against her skin. She swallowed hard, struggling to keep her voice steady. "Who are you? What do you want?"
"The proud heiress… Are you afraid?" he taunted, his smile audible in his voice. "I could have had my fun with you, but that might alert the house. Sorry, dear, this is just business. Rest well."
Before she could react, the blade sliced across her throat. She barely registered the pain as blood poured from the wound, splattering across the balcony and staining the flowers below. She felt her body go numb, the world fading as he pushed her over the railing.
She landed in the bushes, her lifeless eyes gazing up at the sky she'd admired moments before. It was still beautiful, she thought, as darkness swallowed her whole.
At least I got to die in my favorite place, on a beautiful night, too…
