The sun was relentless, beating down on us like it had a personal grudge. Sweat clung to my skin, and every step felt heavier than the last. My leg was killing me, a deep, pulsing ache that only got worse the longer we walked. I had been trying to tough it out, but now I was leaning on Alex for support, his arm around my waist keeping me upright.
"You have to keep moving your legs?" he said, glancing down at me.
I nodded, even though I wasn't sure how long I could keep that up. My vision was starting to blur at the edges, and a dull throb was building behind my eyes.
