"Please I'm sorry, I didn't want to do this, I just wanted the money for my family, please don't kill me!"
The Dragonoid looked at the man, and he suddenly felt enraged by the mage's sudden plea. His words brought intense displeasure to him.
He swiftly pulled his leg back and delivered a devastating and swift kick straight to the man's face, sending him slamming onto a nearby tree and knocking out a few teeth.
"Oh, I suppose I should let you go then, right? After all, you were doing this for your family"
Eon said sarcastically; while he certainly knew the value of a family and how important it was portrayed to be, in his past life, he didn't have one and thus, Eon's view of a family was based on a third-party perspective and not his own.
To put it into perspective, it was akin to being told ramen was delicious but never actually having the opportunity to taste it.
So your thoughts about ramen only amount to "it's something that is supposed to be good" but that doesn't mean you'll rate it as good or bad instead just as something that exists that is supposed to be a certain way or at least that's what he would have felt if he didn't have the memories of someone else.
The idea of family being important and good clashed with what his body knew family to be, and that part of him was enraged, which in turn made him enraged.
Luke looked up, his face bloody and showing his regret as Eon approached, the forest burning behind him and the heat distorting the air.
The red eyes of the Dragonoid gleamed furiously, their menacing glow only exacerbated by the raging flames behind.
The mage prayed a silent prayer, praying to He'us hoping that he doesn't die here today.
Luke felt himself trembling and shaking, he felt the aura wash over him, and he understood; he knew that he had fucked up. He wasn't out of spells to cast; in fact, he had plenty. However, he knew regardless of what he tried, it wouldn't work.
If he tried anything more, it would only compound his transgressions, so it was best to beg than to further enrage his opponent.
"I told you this when we met at the guild, just because you have problems in no way means you get to do whatever you want. You don't get to push aside someone just because you're in a hurry and you don't get to kill someone just because your family is in danger"
Eon informed the man, his anger mounting as his aura flared. Luke trembled, not in fear of the man before him but in fear of the fact that he would die here today.
"I'm sorry, please don't kill me, I was forced to do this by the count–"
Eon interrupted the man with another swift kick to the face, forcing more teeth and blood out his mouth before leaning forward and grabbing him by the scruff of his robes; he was about to transform his hands and pierce the man's chest before he threw him back and quickly stepped back.
"FUCK YOU!! YOU DEAD SON OF BITCH! I AM NOT YOU!!"
Eon screamed as the fire on his body raged hotter, increasing the temperature of the area and causing more of the forest to burn hotter.
Seeing the opportunity, Luke quickly cast minor healing spells on his injuries, just enough to dull the pain and create scabs; he'll see a proper healer later. He then made a run for it, he wasn't about to die here, absolutely not.
"Fuck! I hate this"
Eon exclaimed as he calmed down and returned to his normal self. He hadn't considered that being transmigrated came with a whole can of issues, regardless of how hard he tried to separate himself from the dead prince, this body was still that of another person with their own experience.
"Fucking hell I should have been more specific to that stupid God!! that Motherfucker tricked me"
He screamed in great frustration and annoyance.
"Being triggered just because someone said they were doing something for their family, is not what I signed up for"
He expressed before heaving a sigh, now feeling much calmer than before.
"I'll need to create a mind palace or something to properly block out that bozo's memories from affecting me"
He stated as he ran his fingers through his hair, feeling its rough and thorny texture and he considered keeping it that way, as a way of further distinguishing himself from Nathaniel.
With a sigh, he turned his attention back to the man who tried to kill him, and he figured it was time to get some actual answers; it was a shame that the battle ended; now that he was calm, he wanted to enjoy it more well he was enjoying it till he got triggered.
'You're dead bro, stop ruining things for me'
Just as he was going to chase after Luke he stopped as he realised the forest was on fire.
"Oh right"
He exclaimed before his hair changed from red to a pale icy blue and the temperature began to drop significantly.
He let out a cold, icy breath as he struck a T pose, and in an instant, the part of the forest that was burning immediately froze over, the landscape changing from being covered in bright, hot flames to being blanketed by cool ice.
"if anyone asks questions, I don't know"
He said as he began chasing after his attacker. It took him little time to arrive before the man and kicked him in the stomach and sent him stumbling back and slamming against a tree for the umpteenth time today.
"Just tell me who sent you and I won't have to put belt to ass, like a drunkard step-dad"
Eon informed, nearly chuckling at his own joke; his hands were now placed casually inside his pockets, and his posture was more relaxed.
Luke, hearing such words, took no time at all and spilt everything he knew, even if it was his own speculation. One thing was for certain he didn't plan to die, not anytime soon.
"I see, well first off, we're going to this Count Paul's house but before that let's go to your house, I need something to eat so you'll have to provide it"
"Y-you're not going to kill me?"
"Maybe, maybe not, it's still in the cards, like I said just because you have a family to protect doesn't mean you get a pass"
"But–"
Luke tried to argue but was cut off.
"Humans for the most part have an innate sense of empathy, it's something you're naturally born with, that you cultivate and sharpen through interactions and experiences as such if you tell someone a convincing sob story they'll probably let you off the hook"
Eon paused and sighed before turning around, facing away from the man; it was a sign showing that Luke was not a threat.
"It's a form of manipulation that plays on your emotions; however, regardless of whether or not humans are empathetic creatures, just because your circumstances force you to do something doesn't mean you are exempt from consequences."
He said, turning back to face Luke once more. The mage had no rebuttal, not because he agreed but simply because he was at the man's mercy and saying anything to contradict him may result in his death.
"What can you do that will be profitable just like being an adventurer?"
Luke raised a brow at such a question in slight confusion, he waited for the man to elaborate.
"Well better think of one quick, before we get your house"
After having said that, he began walking towards the city before realising he had an unfinished quest.
"Ah shit, let me finish my quest real quick"
He quickly put his hand into his pocket only to pull out a fist full of ash, anger bubbled in him slowly before it suddenly faded away as he recognized there was no point in getting mad at something that was his own fault.
"My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined."
He expressed as he suddenly sat down on the grass in disappointment and heaved a sigh.
