Alex turns to her, his blue eyes blazing. "Enough, Victoria."
She recoils slightly at his tone but quickly recovers, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes. "Don't take your anger out on me. You brought this mess into our lives, not me."
He takes a deep breath, his jaw tightening. "No, Victoria. We did this. We created this mess when we decided to play along with our parents' games. But I'm done pretending."
Her laugh is cold and humorless, echoing in the empty hallway. "Pretending? Is that what you call ten years of marriage? A life we built together?"
Alex steps back, his hands trembling at his sides. "What life, Victoria? What did we ever build except a façade to keep our families happy? You know there was never any love between us."
