The night air clings to my skin like a second layer, cold and suffocating. My legs feel unsteady as I hold my cheeks, then, I heard a sound of a car following behind us. Then, it was Alex

His voice stopped us.

"Emma."

A simple whisper. My name. And yet, it carries every ounce of the storm brewing between us.

I don't turn around.

I can't.

If I do, I'll break.

The sound of his car crunch against the gravel as he moves closer. My shoulders tense, the familiar warmth of his presence wrapping around me.

Then, our car stop to a halt. Alex got down from the carried and hurried to meet me.

"Don't do this," he murmurs, his voice rough, filled with something too raw, too painful.

I close my eyes, inhaling sharply. "I already have."

Michael shifts beside me, completely at ease, as if he's been waiting for this moment. As if he's savoring it.
