Anne's hazel eyes froze for a second in disbelief, then she grinned and drew nearer to Nick, and even held him from taking a step back!
And she said, "Don't be shy, sugar. Come on, how much do you have?"
Nick took a big gulp and frantically voiced, "R-Really, Miss. It was just a joke. I thought you were going to laugh. Why else would I say that to someone I don't know?"
Anne's smile reduced and she lessened her hold on his clothing.
"So what are you saying?" she asked.
Nick cleared his throat and put some distance between them before answering, "I'm not interested. Sorry."
"Huh?" Anne frowned. "So you just go around asking your female neighbors if you can kiss? How is that funny to you? Or do you think you can get away with it because you're a bit handsome?"
