Chelsea quickly scooched over to Lola, hoping they could protect each other. Deep worry, fright, and fear were etched on their faces.
Sitting on the round table in front of them, Nick voiced, specifically looking at Chelsea, "As long as you two don't try anything funny, I promise you won't get hurt."
Chelsea nodded and hesitantly took out the pepper spray she had hidden in her varsity jacket and placed it aside.
In her eyes, coupled with what Nick just did to Sonny, his casual mention of how his attempted suicide didn't work out, and what he said about crazy people, she believed it was wiser not to test him.
Nick was happy with her compliance. He took the pepper spray and pocketed it.
Something in Nick's words triggered Lola, and she angrily retorted, "So what if I try to run? Will you hit me?"
Nick answered sternly, "You're welcome to try."
"You would hit a girl? Don't you have any sense of dignity?"
