Chapter 11 - Clash of Titans

The gymnasium buzzed with an electric atmosphere as I stood at the edge of the court, heart pounding against my ribcage like a caged animal desperate to escape. Today was the day of the big match—the Yoroshi Knights versus the Seiryu Dragons. I could already feel the weight of expectations pressing down on me, my nerves tangled with excitement as I laced up my sneakers. The scent of polished wood and sweat filled the air, a familiar reminder of the battles I'd faced and the challenges still ahead.

With the referee's whistle cutting through the chatter of the crowd, I focused on the ball as it soared into the air. I leapt with all my might, feeling my body propelled higher than ever before thanks to the God-level jump I'd gained from the system. The ball slipped through my fingers, but it didn't matter; I felt like I was flying.

I landed with a thud, adrenaline surging through my veins. Taz's voice echoed in the arena, heightening the energy around me.

Taz: "And there's Yuki, showcasing that incredible jump! He's not just playing; he's soaring!"

The Seiryu Dragons quickly regrouped, their offense like a well-oiled machine. I could see their captain, Ryoji, gliding across the court with an air of confidence that sent shivers down my spine. His striking blue eyes narrowed at me, a smirk dancing on his lips as if he could smell the fear radiating from my skin.

My heart raced as I dribbled the ball, trying to shake off Ryoji's looming presence. The Dragons were ruthless, and it was clear they were intent on targeting me, exploiting every bit of inexperience they could find. But I couldn't let that stop me. I had to trust in the abilities I had gained.

Hiroshi: "It's clear the Seiryu Dragons are looking to exploit Yuki's inexperience. They know he's the new star player in a new team!"

I recalled my older self's words, reminding me to use my skills wisely and to trust my instincts. I focused on my teammates. Takeshi, Akira's younger brother, had raw talent but often hesitated under pressure. Kenji, on the other hand, was a powerhouse who rushed plays, leaving openings for the Dragons to take advantage of. Together, we were forming a bond, learning to navigate the court as a cohesive unit.

The game heated up, and with each passing moment, I felt the connection with my teammates solidify. I executed a perfect crossover, leaving my defender scrambling as I passed the ball to Kenji. He made a quick layup, and I felt the surge of camaraderie flood through me. This was what basketball was all about.

But the tension in the gym was real. Jamal and some of my old teammates were watching from the stands, their expressions were dreadful. I could feel their eyes on me, urging me to mess up.

With the score tied and only seconds left on the clock, everything boiled down to this moment. I received the ball again, eyes darting around the court, feeling the pressure build as Ryoji moved in. My instincts kicked in. I faked left, then darted right, leaving Ryoji momentarily off-balance.

Taz: "Can Yuki pull off a miracle?"

I passed the ball to Takeshi, who hesitated for a heartbeat but then took a deep breath and sank a three-pointer as the buzzer blared. The crowd erupted, drowning out all my thoughts in a wave of euphoria.

The final whistle blew, sealing our victory over the Seiryu Dragons. I couldn't contain my joy as my teammates swarmed around me, lifting me off the ground in celebration. It felt surreal, like a dream come true. We had done it; we had won.

As I exited the gym, a tall figure approached me. He had a confident smile and an air of authority about him.

"Hey, Yuki! I'm Haruto. I've been watching your game. I want to be your coach. Together, we can take you all pro!" His words filled me with a rush of hope, a sense that maybe, just maybe, this was the breakthrough I had been waiting for.

But as I reached home, the familiar screen materialized in front of me yet again.

My stomach twisted as Older Yuki appeared.

"You did well, but remember, you shouldn't be with Hana again. Rika is who you're going to go pro with."

Frustration bubbled inside me. "What do you mean? I don't like Rika like that! Why do I have to change my life for this?"

Older Yuki's expression was stoic. "Because Hana is not the one for you, Yuki. Trust me; she'll be your downfall."

A surge of confusion hit me. I was caught between two worlds, my emotions spiraling out of control. Was I really going to sacrifice genuine connections for a future laid out for me? The thoughts gnawed at my mind as I wrestled with the idea of following this path, not knowing if I could genuinely find happiness.

As I lay in bed that night, staring at the ceiling, I couldn't shake the feeling of being torn in two directions. Should I pursue a future that felt predetermined, or should I fight for what my heart wanted? Every moment of doubt felt like a chain weighing me down, and I couldn't help but wonder if I was ready to face the consequences of my choices.

Sleep washed over me, but I knew this internal battle had only just begun. The echoes of my victory faded, replaced by the uncertainty that awaited me in the days to come.
