Ethan and Bassam arrived home late in the evening, the cool night air outside in stark contrast to the storm of events that had marked the past few days.
As they stepped through the front door, warmth enveloped them. Ethan sighed softly. "It's good to be home," he said, gesturing toward the stairs. "Come on, I'll show you your room."
Bassam nodded, still taking in the house. His heightened werewolf senses made everything feel new—the scents, the atmosphere. There was something familiar yet strange about it all. Is it because I'm connected to him? Bassam wondered.
Ethan led him to a small but comfortable room at the far end of the hallway. "This is where you'll stay," Ethan said, pushing the door open.
The room was simple: a bed, a small desk, and a wardrobe. Bassam glanced around, satisfied with the setup. "This will do," he said as he sat on the bed, taking a deep breath.
"Ethan?" Bassam called.
Yeah?" Ethan responded from the doorway.
I've been meaning to ask… What about your parents?" Bassam's tone was careful, as if not wanting to step on any sore memories.
Ethan sighed and walked over, sitting beside him on the bed. He hesitated for a moment before speaking, clearly uncomfortable with the topic. "I try to avoid talking about that part of my past," Ethan admitted, his voice quieter. "I never knew my biological parents. The only parents I ever had were my foster parents... They passed away in a plane crash when I was seventeen. That was last year."
Bassam winced. "I didn't mean to bring up something painful. I'm sorry."
"It's fine," Ethan said, managing a small smile. "It doesn't hurt as much as it used to. I've got you guys now. You're my family."
Bassam nodded. "I don't know what to say to that," he laughed awkwardly.
"What about your parents?" Ethan asked, shifting the focus.
Bassam looked down at his hands. "Not much to say, really. I never knew my dad, and my mom died when I was five. I guess we're kind of the same in that way. But I didn't get lucky with foster parents." He smiled weakly, and the two shared a brief laugh, finding solace in their shared losses.
"It's getting late. Let's head to bed," Ethan said, standing up. Bassam nodded, watching as he left the room.
In his own room, Ethan lay down and closed his eyes, letting the quiet of the house settle around him. Just as he began drifting into sleep, a faint buzzing echoed in his head, followed by a familiar blue glow.

"Freaking system," Ethan muttered as sleep finally claimed him.
Meanwhile, in a dimly lit hotel room, Sam and Jack sat on a couch, waiting for word from their supervisor.
"Damn, are they going to send the information or not?" Jack groaned, stretching his arms. "I'm already tired of waiting. I want to sleep."
Sam didn't respond, his focus on a small device in his hand. Finally, it beeped. He pressed a few buttons, and a cold, stern voice emerged from the speaker.
"It has come to our attention that people have been reported missing in the town you were assigned to. This has occurred over the last few days. Your new objective is to investigate these disappearances and gather any clues. If necessary, do not engage unless the situation becomes dire. We don't know the nature of the enemy you're dealing with."
"What about the werewolf?" Jack interjected, his curiosity piqued.
I was not informed of any changes regarding the werewolf. Focus on the current mission," the voice replied. "Good luck."
"Sir? Sir!" Jack called into the device, but the line had already disconnected. He cursed under his breath. "Damn! Why didn't you say anything, Sam? We could've handled both missions together!"
Sam calmly pocketed the device. "I don't bite off more than I can chew."
"Whatever, man," Jack muttered as he stomped toward his room. "I'm going to bed." The door slammed shut behind him.
The next morning, Ethan and Bassam were up early, having a quick breakfast before heading to the backyard for training. The morning air was crisp, and the sky had just begun to lighten.
"Did the system give you anything last night?" Ethan asked, stretching his arms.
"Yeah, it did. Said I got 50 EXP for listening to my alpha's past. I'm at level two now," Bassam replied, pulling up his system interface.

Bassam nodded. "Yeah, I figured it would work best with my skill."
Ethan nodded approvingly. "Alright, let's start the training."
The two of them sparred in the open space, moving swiftly, their senses heightened. Every punch was met with a counter, every movement precise and calculated. By the end of the session, they were both panting heavily, grinning at each other like kids who had just discovered a new game.

"What the hell?" Ethan groaned, reading the last task. "Eat 3 kilograms of raw meat? Has the system gone wild?"
Bassam chuckled. "You're the alpha. Shouldn't you be the one with the answers?"
Ethan rolled his eyes. "We don't have a choice." He grabbed his wallet, and they headed out to buy the raw meat.
About half an hour later, they returned home, having completed the first two tasks. Ethan sighed, holding a bag of sealed raw meat in his hand.
As they approached the house, they spotted Ryan standing by the door, arms crossed, a serious expression on his face which was unusual.
"Yo, what's up?" Ethan called as they greeted him.
Ryan didn't return the greeting. "We've got a problem," he said, his voice low.
"What's up?" Bassam asked, sensing the tension.
"People have been going missing around town. A few in the last couple of days. It's not making headlines yet, but something's off," Ryan explained, his brows furrowed.
Ethan's face darkened. "You think it's connected to us?"
Ryan shrugged. "I'm not sure, but you should contact the others. We need to decide what we're going to do."
