Chapter 37 - chapter 40

Alex's POV

As Emma's smile faded into a thoughtful expression, I felt an overwhelming urge to kiss her again. I leaned in closer, my heart racing at the thought of having her lips against mine once more. There was something intoxicating about her—her warmth, her scent, the way her eyes sparkled with a mixture of excitement and curiosity. I couldn't resist.

I brushed my lips against hers softly, feeling a rush of desire coursing through me. The moment our lips touched, everything else faded into the background. It was just the two of us, lost in the warmth and sweetness of our kiss. My hands found their way to her waist, pulling her closer, deepening the connection between us. The world outside the kitchen blurred, leaving only the taste of her mouth and the sensation of her body against mine.

But then reality crashed back in, and I forced myself to pull away. The last thing I wanted was to lose control—this was too important to rush. I could feel the heat radiating between us, and the desire to explore every inch of her was almost overwhelming. I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself as I looked into her eyes, which were now filled with a mix of surprise and longing.

"Emma," I said softly, my voice a low rumble filled with urgency, "I want to kiss you again, but I don't want to rush this." I could feel the tension hanging thick in the air, and I knew if I let myself give in completely, I wouldn't stop. "I need to be honest with you—I want you, but I also want to make sure we're taking this at the right pace."

Her cheeks flushed, and I could see the desire in her eyes, but she nodded, understanding the intensity of the moment. "I get it," she replied, her voice breathy. "I feel the same way."

I ran a hand through my hair, fighting the urge to kiss her again. "I also want to ask you something," I continued, feeling a mix of anticipation and vulnerability. "Would you consider spending the night here? I mean, not just because of the kiss, but because I genuinely want to be with you. I want to share more moments like this—no pressure, just us."

Emma's eyes widened slightly, and I could see her weighing the invitation. "Are you sure?" she asked, a hint of hesitation in her voice. "I don't want to overstep boundaries."

"Absolutely," I reassured her, my tone sincere. "I want you here, and I promise to respect whatever boundaries you have. I just… I want to be close to you."

She searched my eyes for a moment, and I could feel my heart pounding, waiting for her answer. Finally, a smile broke across her face, lighting up her features. "I'd love to spend the night with you, Alex."

Relief flooded through me, and I couldn't help but grin back. I stepped back slightly to give her space, but I kept her hand in mine, feeling a warmth radiate between us. This was a step I hadn't expected, but it felt right—like the natural progression of what we had begun.

"Let's get comfortable then," I suggested, leading her towards the living room. I was eager to show her the side of me that didn't involve business or plans—just the simple pleasure of enjoying her company.

As we settled onto the couch, I couldn't shake the feeling that tonight was pivotal. There was something undeniably special about Emma. She was strong, passionate, and fiercely independent, yet somehow she made me feel grounded, as if I could be myself completely.

We talked, laughed, and shared stories, the night stretching on in a blur of warmth and laughter. With every moment, I felt more convinced that I was exactly where I was meant to be—beside Emma, exploring the depths of this connection we were building together.

And as the hours passed, I knew that whatever happened next, I was ready to embrace it—together with her.
