Betty was unable to stop Joanna in time, so she decided to make herself scarce instead.
Joanna was surprised to find Alex peacefully sleeping on the bed with his wheelchair next to him.
She felt remorseful for suspecting him and didn't want him to know about her actions.
It was the first time she had seen him in this state, sleeping so soundly.
The only other time they had shared a room, she had fallen asleep before him, and this room was dark, so she hadn't seen him like this before.
If Joanna had her way, she would have turned on the light to get a better look at him, but she knew it would cause trouble and she couldn't come up with a good excuse for intruding on his privacy.
Hastily, she left for the kitchen when Aiden emerged from the closet and locked the door behind him.
"That was a close call," Aiden remarked.
