Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Hidden Within

Michael had always believed that his life would remain simple. In his village, nestled far from the bustling cities, technology was a part of everyday life, but it never interfered with the quiet routine he had known since childhood. He was an ordinary student with ordinary dreams, content with the familiar patterns of each day. The world outside, with its strange advancements and mysteries, seemed distant-unimportant, even.

But the peace of his small village was about to be shattered.

It started one Evening when Michael was on his way back from school. He walked slowly, the weight of his bag hanging over his shoulder. The air was warm, the sky an endless blue, and he allowed his thoughts to drift lazily. Then, without warning, a sharp, crackling sound filled the air. He froze.

Turning his head, he saw something impossible. A tear, shimmering and pulsating with strange, unnatural light, had opened in the sky near the village square. People around him gasped and backed away in fear.

"What... is that?" Michael muttered under his breath.

Suddenly, his friend Lily appeared at his side, panting from the effort of running.

"Michael, did you see that?" she asked, her voice shaking. "What's happening?"

"I don't know," Michael replied, staring at the glowing portal. "But I don't like it."

Before they could react, the portal crackled again, louder this time, and from its depths, monstrous creatures began to emerge. Huge, twisted forms with claws and glowing red eyes. The villagers screamed, scattering in all directions.

Lily grabbed Michael's arm. "We need to run!"

But Michael couldn't move. His feet were rooted to the spot, his heart pounding in his chest. He was terrified, but something else stirred deep within him-a strange pull, as if something inside him had awakened the moment the portal appeared.

"I have to... help them," Michael whispered, though his voice trembled with fear.

"Are you crazy?" Lily's eyes were wide with panic. "You can't fight those things!"

But it was too late. The monsters had already reached the village, and chaos ensued. Buildings were being torn apart, and villagers struggled to defend themselves. In the midst of it all, Michael saw one of the creatures charging straight for a group of schoolchildren, too terrified to move.

Without thinking, he ran forward.

"Michael, no!" Lily screamed after him.

His heart pounded as he dashed across the village square. His body screamed at him to stop, but his legs kept moving. He had no weapons, no special power-just the desperate need to protect the helpless. As he reached the group, he threw himself between the children and the beast, raising his arms in a futile attempt to shield them.

The creature roared, its claws slashing through the air. Michael braced himself, knowing there was nothing he could do to stop it.

Then, something happened.

A strange warmth flooded his body, surging through him like an electric current. His vision blurred for a moment, and when he blinked, he saw that his hands were glowing-a soft, pale light emanated from them.

The monster lunged, but Michael instinctively raised his glowing hands. A powerful blast of energy shot forward, striking the creature in the chest and sending it crashing to the ground.

Michael stared at his hands, wide-eyed. "What... what just happened?"

The remaining monsters hesitated, as if sensing the shift in the air. For a brief moment, the village was silent, the creatures frozen in place. But Michael barely had time to understand what was going on before exhaustion hit him like a wave. His legs buckled, and he collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.

"Michael!" Lily rushed to his side, dropping to her knees beside him. "What did you just do? Are you okay?"

"I... I don't know," Michael panted, struggling to sit up. His body felt heavy, drained from whatever had just happened. "I don't know what that was... but I think I-"

Before he could finish, the monsters roared again, and the chaos resumed. Lily pulled him to his feet.

"We have to get out of here, now!" she urged, her voice desperate.

Michael nodded, though his legs barely supported him. As they stumbled away, the weight of what had just happened pressed down on him. That energy, that power-it had come from him. But how? He had never shown any sign of having powers like the others who had awakened after the first portal appeared weeks ago.

He had always been ordinary. But not anymore.

As they reached a safe distance, Michael glanced back at the portal, still glowing ominously in the center of the village. Whatever had awakened inside him, he knew one thing for certain: this was only the beginning.
