Chapter 142 - Chapter 142 (edited)

The next morning, Kara woke up on Jennifer's bed with a dazed expression.

She scratched her messy hair, and as her fingers ran through it, the chaotic strands instantly became smooth and neat.

Jennifer watched from the side, envy glinting in her eyes.

"Why am I in your house?" Kara asked groggily.

"Do you think I stole you or something?" Jennifer rolled her eyes in mock annoyance. "For some reason, you just appeared here last night. I had to kick Bruce out to another room. But, honestly, it's been a while since we've had a sleepover, so I don't mind the nostalgia."

Kara yawned, still confused. "I was in my room…"

Before she could continue, Kara suddenly disappeared with a soft whooshing sound.

Jennifer froze, wide-eyed. "What just happened? A ghost?"

On the other side, Kara found herself back in her room, sitting on her bed, her mind racing.

If her guess was correct, this had to be teleportation.

She placed her hand on her forehead, sighing. Why now? She couldn't understand why this ability had suddenly surfaced. She wasn't flying—it was instantaneous movement across space. That was what defined teleportation: a momentary leap from one point to another.

For Kara, though, it didn't make much difference. She could already travel across half the universe in under a second. Crossing from Earth to the far reaches of the galaxy didn't even require a space jump.

In essence, teleportation felt redundant.

Yet, she couldn't ignore how it had manifested. It reminded her of when she first awakened the ability to shrink and grow. The pattern seemed similar—an inexplicable awakening of new powers.

"Well, it's not like it's a bad thing," Kara muttered to herself, shrugging as she accepted the situation. Still, she needed to learn how to control this new ability. The last thing she wanted was to accidentally teleport somewhere, like into the Daily Planet newsroom, and give Perry White a heart attack. She still wanted a few more days of rest before heading back to work.

After experimenting for a while, Kara managed to master the basics of her teleportation. She found that it only activated when she willed it, and she could precisely choose her destination. There were two key limitations: she could only teleport to places she had been before or could currently see. Unknown locations were off-limits.

This wasn't much of a restriction for her, though. With her super vision, she could perceive almost any corner of the universe.

Still, she couldn't help but smile wryly. With her flight speed, she could traverse the universe in mere moments. Teleportation might be convenient, but it wasn't revolutionary for someone like her.

After some practice, Kara called Jennifer to reassure her.

When Bruce heard about the new ability, his reaction was a mix of amazement and dry humor.

"Jen, I'm starting to think Kara is your real partner, not me," he quipped, only half-joking.

Their close friendship sometimes made Bruce jealous, leading him to moments like this. Jennifer had to spend extra time comforting him, leaving Kara to laugh as she stared at her phone.

"Seriously, Bruce? I'm the one who should be jealous. You managed to make her hang up on me with your whining."

"Kara, breakfast is ready," Martha called from downstairs. "Honestly, what time is it? You've been lazing around for too long!"

Kara chuckled as she hurried to freshen up before heading downstairs.

When she entered the dining room, she saw Jonathan and Martha waiting patiently for her. They hadn't started eating yet.

Sitting in her old seat, Kara accepted a glass of milk from Martha and reached for the bacon and bread Jonathan had pushed toward her.

The three began eating together, and Martha was the first to speak. "What's your plan for today? If you don't have to rush back to work, you could stay home a little longer."

Kara smiled at her mother's change in tone, going from scolding to doting in an instant. "I think I will. I've been gone for five years—if I've lost my job, it's already gone. No rush."

"That's not exactly a positive outlook," Jonathan muttered, giving her a disapproving look. "Why not stay and take over the farm? It's been in our family for generations."

Kara only smiled, not responding.

Jonathan sighed, realizing neither Kara nor Clark seemed interested in continuing the family tradition. He didn't press further.

Martha shifted the conversation. "If you have no plans, we could go into town. You need new clothes. Everything you had is five years old now."

Kara thought for a moment before replying. "Actually, I was thinking of checking on Clark. I wonder how he's doing."

Martha and Jonathan exchanged a glance, their excitement evident.

"Tell him to come home," Martha said eagerly. "He's been out there long enough."

Jonathan, however, took a more cautious approach. "If he's learning and growing, let him continue his journey. But make sure he knows not to reveal himself before he's ready. That's crucial."

"I understand," Kara replied seriously.

The thought of Clark being exposed to the world's fear and judgment was a sobering one. It was something none of them wanted for him.

Kara's expression mirrored her father's seriousness. She'd guide Clark the best she could.
