Originally a Parallax entity symbolizing fear and the embodiment of its power, the creature now resembled an ordinary bug in Kara's hands. To Kara, it even looked... delicious.
"I could just cut it in half," Kara mused aloud, casually discussing with Sif whether she could dissect the creature and take it back for frying. She had tasted it roasted before but was curious about trying it fried.
Sif, the Asgardian warrior, pressed her palm to her forehead, exhaling in exasperation. "Kara, that is not funny."
"I'm not joking."
"Well, I'm treating it as a joke," Sif shot back, her tone firm. "Now put it back."
Kara pouted but relented, tossing the Parallax entity back into the Green Power Battery, where it was sealed away by the willpower of the Green Lantern Corps. It seemed Ion, the entity of willpower, was silently doing its part to reinforce the containment.
Kara had confirmed that this creature retained the memories of its predecessor but was not the same as the original Parallax entity. This was more like a "second-generation" Parallax.
It meant Kara didn't need to worry about retaliation. In fact, it seemed the creature didn't even dare to challenge her. Parallax entities, embodiments of fear, typically spread terror wherever they went. Kara, however, was the exception—she was their natural predator. She hunted them; they didn't hunt her.
The moment she returned to Asgard, Sif insisted on escorting Kara back to the sacred halls, unwilling to leave her alone near anything remotely dangerous.
In Asgard, the Council of Elders formally thanked Kara for her contributions in sealing the Parallax five years prior. They acknowledged the Parallax's initial escape had been their responsibility and appreciated Kara's efforts in cleaning up their mess.
The Asgardians didn't stop at words of gratitude. They shared detailed insights into the various Lantern Corps, particularly their rings' powers and limitations, helping Kara better understand how to use them in battle.
The Lantern Corps: Insights and Powers
Red Lantern Corps (Rage):
Representing anger, red rings grant immense physical power and destructive abilities. They also enable the wielder to project constructs like the Green Lantern rings.
Orange Lantern Corps (Avarice):
The orange rings, embodying greed, are feared even by the Green Lanterns. However, wielders are consumed by insatiable greed, which isolates them. When an Orange Lantern kills someone, the victim's energy becomes an enslaved construct called an "Orange Lantern Ghost."
Kara, the sole wielder of an orange ring, remains unaffected by its corruptive nature thanks to the balancing influence of her other rings.
Yellow Lantern Corps (Fear):
Specializing in psychokinetic abilities, yellow rings can instill overwhelming fear and create powerful constructs for offense or defense.
Blue Lantern Corps (Hope):
Blue rings, representing hope, amplify the abilities of nearby Green Lanterns and counteract the power of yellow rings. A unique aspect of blue rings is their theoretical ability to reignite stars.
Indigo Lantern Corps (Compassion):
Indigo rings focus on healing and empathy, with limited offensive capabilities. They resonate deeply with mercy, even extending compassion to their enemies.
Star Sapphire Corps (Love):
Purple rings, symbolizing love, allow their wielders to create crystalline prisons and track loved ones through their heartbeats. In rare cases, they can use the power of love to resurrect someone who has just died. However, their darker side enables manipulation by instilling false love in others.
Black Lantern Corps (Death):
Black rings reanimate the dead, granting their bearers the power to extinguish life, even in immortal beings. Kara's original black ring operates independently of Nekron, the primordial entity of death, placing her on equal footing with him.
White Lantern Corps (Life):
White rings, representing life itself, grant immortality and resurrection. Kara's mastery of the white ring ensures she cannot die as long as its spectrum remains active. The white light's potential extends beyond individuals, allowing for the revival of entire species.
When the Asgardians reached the topic of the white light, they issued a word of caution.
"Kara," one elder began, "while you could resurrect Krypton, doing so recklessly would have catastrophic consequences."
Kara frowned. "Why? Is this about your ancient grudges?"
The elder shook their head. "No, child. The white light represents not just individual life but the delicate balance of all life in all universes. It's not merely life—it's the 'Equation of Life.' Disrupt it carelessly, and the consequences could be unimaginable."
Kara crossed her arms, dissatisfied but begrudgingly accepting their point.
With her newfound understanding of the Lantern Corps' powers, Kara returned to her duties, armed with unparalleled knowledge and an array of formidable tools. Whether it was fear, greed, rage, or even death itself, Kara knew she could overcome it all—and, if necessary, she could fry it for dinner too.
