On the planet Oa, there exists a location akin to a central power hub, the main source of energy for all Green Lanterns. Known as the Central Power Battery, it acts as the primary source of willpower in the universe.
This Central Power Battery serves as the ultimate reservoir of green light energy, empowering the rings worn by Green Lanterns. If each Lantern's power ring operates like a personal battery, then this Central Battery functions as the main generator, fueling them all.
Normally, access to the Central Power Battery is restricted. However, under the pressing circumstances of today, the Guardians of the Universe have permitted Tomar-Re to escort Kara to this site, under the watchful eyes of several Green Lanterns.
"The situation is urgent; protocol isn't our main concern right now. The Guardians hope you can find the answers you seek here. Not only is this the source of all Green Lanterns' power, but it also holds the records of nearly everything known by the Green Lantern Corps, even dating back 100,000 years—the truth of it all," Tomar-Re explained briefly to Kara.
The Green Lantern power rings hold many abilities, essentially functioning as highly advanced computers. Among these capabilities, they can translate almost all languages in the universe, allowing Kara to communicate freely with other beings. The rings also enable communication across vast distances, and most critically, they can connect to the Book of Oa, accessing the relevant records and knowledge stored there.
The Book of Oa, regarded as an invaluable artifact, is often guarded by an elite member of the Corps, as appointed by the Guardians. Some believe it to be hidden within the Central Power Battery itself, allowing any Green Lantern to retrieve information by connecting through their rings. By visualizing a particular sector and then inserting the ring into the Central Battery, a Lantern can access information about that sector: from details about the planets, species, cultures, and civilizations to the history of that region.
But the information Kara needed was even more specific. She sought to understand the ancient history of the Green Lantern Corps, beyond what the Guardians had selectively revealed.
With Tomar-Re's guidance, Kara stepped before the Central Power Battery. The massive device glowed in its iconic green, imposing yet radiant. The structure resembled a giant lantern, its towering bars on either side forming the shape of a colossal Roman numeral II.
A furnace-like door opened, and before Kara appeared a thick, radiant green glow—an almost viscous energy that pulsed as though alive. This was the essence of willpower, a part of the emotional spectrum, visible now in its purest form as the Central Power Battery radiated its light.
Kara, undeterred, raised her left hand, directing her power ring toward the green energy. She pushed forward, bold and fearless, as if daring any trickery, trusting that the Guardians themselves would not dare betray her at this moment.
The moment Kara's ring connected with the Central Battery, a torrent of information flooded her mind—a stream of memories and data dating back 100,000 years, tied to the Kryptonians. This was the history she sought.
Through this connection, Kara could "see" Krypton as it once was, 100,000 years ago.
In that distant past, Krypton had already achieved an advanced level of technology. The Kryptonians had the means to explore and even colonize beyond their planet. The planet itself was stable, beautiful, and far from the fate of destruction that would later befall it.
Even back then, Krypton orbited a red sun, a stage that the sun had reached millions, perhaps billions, of years prior. With its solar age measured in such vast spans of time, the red star was stable, though in its later life cycle. Despite this, the Kryptonians understood the long-term risks. They knew their star would eventually die, perhaps collapsing into a black hole and threatening their entire solar system.
Yet rather than seeking to conquer other worlds, the Kryptonians simply hoped to escape their doomed home, seeking refuge on new planets. However, as they sought this escape, they encountered resistance. The ancient Guardians of the Universe, blue-skinned beings older than the Kryptonians, held vast power and controlled the emotional spectrum to maintain order. Back then, they commanded not just the Green Lantern Corps, but other color-based Corps as well.
The Guardians, concerned by the Kryptonians' actions, intervened. But they soon discovered that Kryptonians under a yellow sun, exposed to solar energy different from that of their red sun, gained immense powers. With this knowledge, Kryptonian scientists developed an artificial yellow sun, creating an army of super-powered soldiers who could rival even the Guardians' forces.
However, the Kryptonians still had their limitations. When exposed to red sun radiation or kryptonite, they reverted to normal.
In the early confrontations, the Kryptonians struggled against the Guardians' multi-colored Corps. Yet, seeing her people's struggle against the oppressive Guardians stirred something within Kara—a fierce anger and defiance against this ancient tyranny.
But the history grew darker. To combat the Guardians' armies, Krypton turned to bioengineering, creating weapons known as the Doomsday creatures, reanimated and enhanced from fallen Kryptonians. These creatures would become one of the DC Universe's most notorious threats.
The creation of Doomsday decimated the Guardians' multi-colored armies, reducing their forces to only the Green Lantern Corps. The Guardians had no choice but to retreat.
As this revelation surfaced, Kara's emotions intensified, her fury reaching a point that flirted with the power of the Red and Black Lanterns. Her cloak moved as if alive, a manifestation of her inner turmoil, driven by anger and the need for justice.
And through it all, she now understood her people's plight, their struggle against both the universe and their imminent demise.
With this knowledge, she could begin to see her path forward, no longer beholden to one-sided accounts, but fully aware of her heritage and its legacy.
