Joker was as cunning as ever. He appeared cooperative, even seemed delighted to explain the locations of Harvey and Rachel, yet he never mentioned until the end that he'd also taken Gordon's family hostage.
He thrived on unsettling people, pushing everyone's nerves to the edge, aiming to make them as unhinged as he was. Joker wasn't afraid of harm; in fact, he hoped Bruce would kill him, knowing that doing so would drag Bruce down into the same abyss he inhabited.
But then, there was Kara—a complication Joker hadn't counted on. He thought he knew Kara well, but did he really?
Unlike Bruce, Kara didn't ask about the whereabouts of Gordon's family. It seemed callous, as if she'd abandoned them. Yet that wasn't the case at all.
At the precinct gates, Kara and Bruce split up: Bruce would be responsible for rescuing Harvey, while Kara took on the task of rescuing everyone else, including Rachel.
The two were headed to nearly opposite locations—a twisted arrangement Joker had orchestrated just to cause chaos.
Kara veered into a nearby alley, then stopped her motorcycle and sighed. "So, it's going to be like this."
Unknown to Joker, Bruce, and even her closest friends, Jennifer and Dani, Kara had a secret—one she had only shared with her family. She wasn't from Earth. Kara was a Kryptonian.
Joker's oversight was assuming he understood her limits; he could never have anticipated she'd turn out to be an alien.
Kara got off her motorcycle, stretched, and then kicked off the ground, propelling herself into the air. She hadn't intended to reveal her powers, but with the situation so dire, there was no time for restraint.
As she soared above Gotham, Kara turned her gaze towards where she thought Rachel would be—only to be startled when she realized that it was actually Harvey. Joker had deliberately swapped their locations.
Kara clenched her jaw, anger rising. She despised being played.
Hovering in the sky, Kara used her Super Vision, scanning all of Gotham with a meticulous focus. She didn't know what Gordon's family looked like, but she could pick out any scene that resembled a hostage setup.
Within seconds, she identified three spots around the city where family members—a father, a 13-year-old girl, and an 11-year-old boy—were being held, each shackled and surrounded by barrels of gasoline.
That had to be them, she thought.
Having located Gordon's family, she began her rescue, starting with Mrs. Gordon. Since Joker hadn't left any guards, freeing her was easy—perhaps Joker had assigned guards, but they must've fled by now, fearing any Kryptonian might come their way.
Without waiting for Mrs. Gordon to ask about the children, Kara whisked her across Gotham to another location where Barbara, Gordon's teenage daughter, was held. She freed Barbara too, then moved to where James Jr. was kept.
In under a minute, Kara had rescued the entire family and deposited them at the door of their home. They looked at each other, bewildered and still processing what had just happened. Kara instructed them to call Gordon in five minutes to let him know they were safe, fearing Joker might interfere if he found out too soon.
After ensuring their safety, Kara turned her attention back to Harvey's location. As she arrived, Harvey was talking to Rachel over a radio Joker had conveniently left behind to let them communicate.
When Harvey spotted Kara, his eyes widened in shock. "What are you doing here? Go save Rachel!"
"Don't worry," Kara replied, walking over to untie him. "Someone else is already on their way to her."
"Rachel," Harvey called into the radio, still anxious.
A low, gravelly voice responded, "I'm here." Bruce had arrived on the scene with Rachel.
As Kara led Harvey out, Rachel and Harvey shared a moment of relief, holding each other tightly. Overwhelmed with emotion, Rachel turned to Harvey, "I will. I will marry you," she said, having narrowly escaped death. Harvey, equally moved, embraced her.
Kara glanced at Bruce with a smirk. "Hang in there," she said, patting his shoulder in a playful attempt to console him.
Bruce, however, remained stoic. While the reunion stung, he held back any sign of hurt, remaining composed.
Turning back to Gordon, Kara asked, "So, have you heard from your family?"
Gordon nodded, gratitude evident in his eyes. "Thank you, Kara. If anything had happened to them… I wouldn't know how to go on. But… how did you do it? It felt like you flew around Gotham in less than a minute."
There was a glint in his eye that suggested he knew more than he let on. Kara quickly began thinking of an excuse, but was saved by an unexpected interruption.
A sudden explosion echoed from the police station behind them. The precinct had been rigged to blow.
