Chapter 74 - Chapter 73

Kara is not impulsive, and although she has just revealed her identity as Oracle to Perry, there's a reason behind it.

First, she must head to Gotham City immediately—Jennifer's life might be in danger at any time. Secondly, Bruce's and her identities are already known to Rachel. If Bruce can trust Rachel with his secret, why shouldn't Kara trust someone like Perry?

Perry is a smart man. He knows when to dig for answers and when to stay silent. So, when Kara hinted at her Oracle identity, Perry wisely chose to pretend he didn't hear it.

Now that Perry's on the same page, Kara feels more at ease.

Throwing her phone onto the passenger seat, Kara slammed on the accelerator. Without hesitation, she used her telekinetic powers to reduce the car's weight, allowing the vehicle, which wasn't even a sports car, to reach an astonishing 400 mph in an instant.

This speed is terrifying, even beyond what most supercars can handle. It's well beyond the theoretical maximum speed of an F1 racing car, which tops out at around 375 mph.

Ordinary people would have long lost control of the vehicle at this point—it wasn't just floating, it was practically flying. If Kara wanted, she could've made the car literally fly.

In no time, Kara arrived back in Gotham City. Despite being a protector of Metropolis, she often found herself drawn to Gotham. This time, like the last, it wasn't about her—it was about someone close being injured or attacked.

Following the directions Bruce had given her, Kara made her way to the hospital where Jennifer was recovering. She rushed to the designated floor and spotted Bruce standing in the hallway outside.

"Where's Jennifer?" Kara demanded as she approached Bruce, her voice filled with urgency. "Is she alright?"

Bruce stepped aside so Kara could see through the glass window. Jennifer was awake, sitting up in bed with a thick case file in her hands, already back at work.

"I told her to rest, but as you can see..." Bruce shrugged, then added, "Why don't you go in? I'll grab some drinks."

With that, Bruce left, giving Kara a bit of peace.

Kara sighed, feeling a weight lift from her shoulders. She pushed open the door and stepped inside the room. Jennifer glanced up briefly before returning her attention to the document in front of her.

Kara marched over, snatching the file out of Jennifer's hands. "Are you serious right now?" Kara scolded. "I told you to be careful, didn't I? And now, you're sitting here, hurt, going over case files like nothing happened! What are you thinking?"

Kara was furious. After hearing Bruce's account of the bombing, she had learned that Jennifer's car had been completely obliterated, a testament to the power of the explosive. Jennifer had only survived because of her quick reflexes—closing the door and throwing herself backward just before the blast. Even so, the debris from the explosion had put her in considerable danger.

Jennifer, however, seemed amused by Kara's outburst. She noticed Kara's usually impeccable blonde hair was disheveled, her glasses were missing, and her clothing—an office blouse paired with jeans and slippers—seemed hastily thrown on. It was clear Kara had rushed to her side the moment she heard the news.

Feeling touched, Jennifer smiled softly and opened her arms. "I'm fine, Kara. I'm not dead."

Kara immediately embraced her but gritted her teeth. "You're an idiot. How did this happen?"

Jennifer didn't hide anything from Kara. "I think it's because we've gotten too close to bringing down Gotham's criminal leaders with Batman's help. They probably retaliated."

Jennifer said it casually, but Kara's heart skipped a beat. "You're trying to take down all the gang leaders in Gotham at once? Are you crazy?"

"It was Harvey's idea," Kara muttered, massaging her temples in frustration.

Jennifer wasn't even a prosecutor anymore. Technically, she didn't have the authority to make arrests; that was the job of the police. Jennifer's role was in the courts—she was Gotham's chief judge. In other words, Harvey was likely the one who had pushed Jennifer into participating in this dangerous operation, hoping to land a massive blow against Gotham's organized crime.

But seeing Jennifer's indifference, Kara's anger surged again. "You realize how serious this is, don't you? What are you going to tell your parents when they find out about this?"

Jennifer shrugged and grabbed Kara's hand. "That's why we're not telling them. They'd be terrified."

Kara rolled her eyes. She had nearly had a heart attack when she first got the call, and now Jennifer wanted to keep it all quiet?

"Fine," Kara sighed. "Let me see where you're hurt."

She reached to lift Jennifer's hospital gown to check her injuries, but Jennifer quickly batted her hand away, shaking her head as she gestured behind Kara.

Kara turned around and saw Bruce standing just outside the door, holding several bottles of drinks and staring through the glass.

"Bruce!" Kara groaned, exasperated. "When did you develop that kind of habit?"

With a smirk, Jennifer teasingly said, "Speaking of Bruce, what's going on between you two?"

Kara's gossip radar instantly lit up. There was something off about how much Bruce seemed to care for Jennifer lately. When did their relationship get so close?

Jennifer shrugged, seemingly unfazed by Kara's curiosity. "Oh, nothing serious... except, I might be pregnant."

Kara's jaw nearly hit the floor. "Wait, what?!"

Jennifer grinned mischievously. "Just kidding. But seriously, I've been thinking about starting over, maybe even moving back to Metropolis once this case is over."

Kara raised an eyebrow. "And what about Bruce?"

Jennifer sighed. "He has someone else in his heart. I came here to Gotham for him, but now I'm focused on something bigger—bringing justice to this city."

Kara smiled, gently squeezing Jennifer's hand. "Well, I guess we'll see what the future holds. But if you even think about going after Clark, we're going to have problems."

Jennifer chuckled, shaking her head. "Clark? Please. But who knows, maybe I'll end up with Batman instead."

Kara shot her a knowing look, thinking to herself, "If only you knew the truth."
