Faced with this sudden disaster, Kara was filled with doubt.
If she continued to follow her ideals and goals of becoming a superhero, now that she was aware of the disaster unfolding, she would definitely feel the need to help those in need.
However, Kara knew Jonathan's perseverance well. He wasn't a selfish person; on the contrary, he was upright and had been a great role model for both her and Clark. Only when it came to protecting the two of them did Jonathan become extremely inflexible. Kara already suspected that Jonathan's death might have something to do with protecting their identities, much like the plot in Man of Steel.
The car continued speeding forward, but the atmosphere inside became increasingly tense.
Kara's serious expression was noticed by the rest of the family, and they began to sense something was off.
—Honey, what's wrong? —Martha asked, thinking that Kara was upset about leaving home—. Are you worried I won't be able to accept you leaving? Don't worry, as you said, I can visit you in Metropolis.
Kara shook her head, about to share the premonition she had. But at that moment, they could already see what was happening ahead.
—What is that?
—Run!
Outside the windows, other drivers on the road were abandoning their cars and fleeing.
The road wasn't empty, so turning around to escape by car wasn't an option. Their only choice was to run on foot.
Jonathan slowly brought the car to a stop. The road ahead was blocked by a row of vehicles, preventing them from moving forward.
The entire family got out of the car and looked ahead.
They saw a tornado that had suddenly appeared on the road, growing larger and larger.
The nearest vehicles began to get caught in its pull, and many people inside them had no time to escape. Terrified screams filled the air.
Jonathan instinctively wanted to run forward to help, but Kara grabbed his arm.
Kara shook her head at him.
Jonathan didn't know that Kara had seen a vision of his future death, so he simply reassured her:
—You and Clark stay here with your mother. I'm going to check it out.
—I'm going too —Clark said, ready to follow him.
But Jonathan stopped him with a stern look.
—Clark, don't let anyone see your strength.
He was deeply concerned about Clark exposing his powers.
Clark, feeling powerless, had no choice but to obey and watch as Jonathan walked toward the tornado.
—What do we do? —Clark asked, distressed—. Are we just going to watch him walk into danger?
Before Kara could answer, Martha spoke up.
—Listen to your father. He knows what he's doing.
—No, he can't fix this —Kara said, shaking her head with determination—. Jonathan will die if he keeps going.
She knew there were too many people around, and if she used her powers to save Jonathan, everyone would see, exposing her identity.
The tornado continued to intensify. Meanwhile, Jonathan was helping people trapped in their vehicles to escape.
He saved several people, but those he rescued simply ran off without looking back.
Yet Jonathan didn't stop. He kept saving as many as he could until he had rescued the last person.
But then, just as he was about to leave, he noticed a dog trapped inside a car whose owner had fled.
Without hesitation, he turned back and tried to break the window to save the animal. However, the car's window was made of strong, durable glass.
At that moment, Martha cried out:
—Jonathan!
The tornado was dangerously close, and any second now, Jonathan would be swept away.
Clark wanted to run toward him, but Jonathan, sensing his intentions, turned and raised his hand to stop him.
Clark, who had spent his entire life obeying his father's teachings, hesitated, even though every part of him wanted to act.
Jonathan looked over at Kara, his adopted daughter.
But it was already too late.
Kara was no longer standing beside Martha.
Jonathan grew anxious, knowing that Kara might expose her powers to save him.
But there was no going back now.
Kara quickly removed her glasses and, in the blink of an eye, changed into her superhero suit: a dark blue top, a bright red cape, and knee-high red boots.
Her long blonde hair fluttered in the wind as she leaped into action.
The figure of Superman—this time in female form—raced toward the tornado.
—Is that a bird?
—Is it a plane?
—No! It's Superman!
In an instant, Kara appeared in front of Jonathan.
With a gentle tap, she broke the car window with ease and rescued the trapped dog.
Then, she extended her hand toward Jonathan, who looked at her in disbelief.
—You're not supposed to be here —Jonathan said.
Kara shrugged.
—Sorry, Dad. I'm going through a rebellious phase.
Jonathan was speechless. How could he have a "rebellious" 30-year-old daughter?
With no other choice, Jonathan accepted the situation. Kara took him and the dog in her arms and flew back to Martha.
Martha rushed to Jonathan's side, hugging him in relief.
Kara winked at Clark, handed him the dog, and then flew back toward the tornado.
With a powerful exhalation, Kara dissipated the tornado in seconds. The disaster that had threatened so many lives was neutralized with ease.
When it was over, Kara floated slowly back to the ground, as the crowd around her erupted into applause and cheers.
With a satisfied smile, Kara looked around but knew it wasn't time to fully reveal herself to the world.
Without another word, she flew back into the sky, disappearing from sight.
Superman had made their debut, but this time, it was a Supergirl who appeared first.
