That night, Kara took a high-speed flight home alone. When she arrived, her family was already asleep.
Kara quietly opened the window and slipped back into her room. The first floor of this small house consisted of the living room, kitchen, and other facilities. The upper floor was the living area. Her adoptive parents' room was the largest, followed by Kara's, and finally Clark's cabin.
After putting on her pajamas, Kara silently went downstairs to open the fridge. They had several cows at home, which used to be Clark's main source of food, but now it had become a regular drink in the house.
She poured herself a glass of milk and took a sip when her ears twitched, hearing the faint sound of footsteps coming down the stairs.
Kara turned around, and in the next second, she saw the figure of her adoptive mother, Martha, appearing at the staircase.
With two sensitive children in the family, both Martha and Jonathan had developed the habit of moving quietly around the house at night to avoid waking them.
Martha hadn't slept until now because Kara hadn't come home, and she felt relieved when she saw her standing there.
"Why so late?" Martha asked in a soft voice.
Kara pointed upstairs. "Clark's already asleep, it's fine."
Martha was afraid of waking Clark, as the boy still couldn't control his powers as perfectly as Kara, and sometimes he still picked up many sounds with his ears.
Lately, Clark had been quite troubled by it.
Luckily, Clark was slowly regaining control, so he no longer acted as strangely at school.
"I went to see a movie with Jennifer and Dani earlier. I didn't realize how late it was. I'm sorry," Kara briefly explained, smoothly lying.
At home, Martha was very lenient with the children and usually didn't scold them.
Jonathan's words were also very affectionate toward the two kids, but he often maintained the image of a strict father. Being a first-time parent, he sometimes seemed overly strict.

Jonathan and Martha were extremely worried, and Clark wanted to go with them, but Kara stopped him, so he wouldn't have to worry and could just go to school as usual.
Kara was taken to the police station, where she found that the two drunks from the previous night had also been brought in, along with Jennifer and Dani.
The body of the drunk man who had died in the alley was discovered by the garbage collector in the morning, causing a sensation in the quiet town.

Dani's statement said she left first, so she didn't know what happened afterward.
Jennifer's statement was that she only saw Kara taking one of the drunk men away, but she didn't know what happened after that.
Regarding these confessions, Kara could understand them, even those of the two drunk men. They stuck to the story Kara had told the previous night, saying that a person dressed in a bat suit appeared and admitted to killing their companion.
Feeling satisfied, Kara delivered the final part of her planned confession, saying that she had intended to scare the drunk man, but when she reached the alley, she encountered a man dressed as a bat.
"He threatened and intimidated me so much that I had no choice but to leave, and after that, I didn't know what happened and didn't dare to look back."
Why did that guy die?
After finishing her planned statement, Kara subtly led the officer across from her to say what she wanted to hear.
The officer on the other side, without thinking, said, "He was killed with a powerful and terrifying weapon, like a legendary laser gun or some sort of fire weapon."
The officer shook his head as he spoke. In fact, they still hadn't determined what kind of weapon had killed the man.

"Alright, you can go now. Your parents are waiting for you outside," the officer's voice brought Kara back to reality.
Kara turned her head. Indeed, a one-way mirror was used in the interrogation room, and the soundproofing was excellent, but she could still see her adoptive parents outside.
At that moment, Kara smiled and signaled to them that everything was fine.
However, Jonathan's face looked grim. He could hide it from others, but not from his own family.
