"So, how's it going over there?".
"Nothing new it's the same boring job. I would rather be with you right now honey". She sighed.
"It's alright mum, you don't have to feel down I know you couldn't fight against the choices of those old men upstairs, so you focus on your work while I focus on giving you a champion to be proud of". Alex said as he pushed back his white hair now slicked with sweat from the harsh glare of the sun.
"Champion or not, I will always be proud of you, I just feel bad on not being able to support you on your first big football match". His mum said.
"There will be many more matches were you will support me in the future, besides Anna's giving me a hell lot of support here". His eyes glanced at the large banner his best friend was waving.
**BEAT THOSE WOLVES UNTIL THEY CRY LIKE PUPPIES**. Alex was sure by now that Anna was the enemies of all the wolves faction, noticing his gaze she erupted with a large cheer.
"That's my best friend and the captain". If looks could kill then the hundreds of harsh glares directed at Alex would have turned him to ash, he looked away quickly, there was no way he knew that crazy person.
"Who are you and what did you do to my baby? since when were you so mature Xander?". His mother asked.
"I have always been mature". Alex argued.
"I beg to differ, there was that time were you didn't talk to me for a whole week just because I gave out your favourite Megatron toy or that time you cut holes into my favourite dress cause I forgot to pick up your birthday cake or th..".
"I was a kid then mum". Alex felt his face redden the more his mother talked.
"Callahan times up". A voice yelled.
"Mum I got to go, coach Rivera is calling me".
"Alright baby, wishing you the best, good luck, love you".
"Thanks mum, love you too, bye". He ended the call with a beep and jogged to meet the rest of his teammates.
*****
"Mummy's boy is finally back". A boy with red hair joked and they all laughed.
"That's enough, Finn". Coach Rivera glared. "Now that Alex is finally back let's get down to business. I have watched the past games of the wolves and all I have got to say is that they will be the toughest opponents you guys ever faced, they are strong, but whether you guys win or lose, I want you guys to play with pride and show them that you are the **Lions**". Coach Rivera siad.
"That's right guys we are the Lions and the wolves may be strong but we are going to show them we are stronger". Alex said and all the boys cheered.
"That's right boys keep that determination and confidence, I will be rigth back, in the meantime you do your stretches". Coach Rivera said.
****
Alex was in the middle of his stretches when he heard a voice.
"Alexander?".
Alex froze mid stretch, his full name was Alexander, but his friends just called him Alex, his mother prefferd Xander and for the impatient and fiery Anna it was just Lex, there was only one person who called him by his full name and god forbid that he was the one standing behind him.
"Alexander, are you just going to ignore me?". Now Alex was sure it was him, there was no mistaking that arrogant voice filled with cockiness.
All his teammates too had stopped their stretching eager for the approaching drama.
"Vincent". Alex said as he turned to face his nemesis. "It's been a long time". He said calmly, meanwhile his insides boiled, the urge to punch that smiling asshole in the face grew stronger each moment.
"Look at you finally captain now that I am gone". Vincent laughed.
"I would stiil have become the captain even if you remained, it's just a pity that you ran away too early before I could beat your sorry ass". Alex glared.
"Really? if I remember right you had many chances, but you were too busy being behind me to ever beat me". Vincent laughed.
"Hey don't talk to Alex like that, he will beat you sorry ass anytime". Finn yelled.
"See you on the the field Alex, hope you have grown better Lion". Vincent siad, completely ignoring Finn.
"Lions? more like kittens". A lackey beside Vincent who had been ignored sneered.
"Hey". Finn yelled in anger.
"Vincent?". A soft voice broke the tense atmosphere.
Alex watched in shock as Vincent's looks softened within seconds, as he turned to face the beautiful blonde girl standing a few feet's away.
"Why did you come here Isabella?". Vincent asked gently as he approached the girl.
"I couldn't find you so I asked the guys and they said you were here, I am sorry if I interrupted anything". Isabella explained softly a blush rapidly covering her cheeks.
"You aren't interrupting, I am done here". Vincent said as he led her away, nameless lackey following hot on their heels.
"Hey Alex, you are okay?". A boy asked as he bumped his shoulders.
"Yeah I am good". Alex assured.
"Who was that anyway?". Finn asked.
"Our former captain and current captain of the wolves". Another boy answered and Finn gasped.
A fiery determination burned within Alex, he must win this match, never again would Vincent stand above him.
*****
"Hey Alex you don't need to beat yourself up, you did your best". Finn placed a hand on his shoulder.
"But if I had tried harder we could have won". Alex said.
"You did your best and everyone saw that, no one is blaming you, besides you will always reamin the best captian in my heart". Finn assured.
"Thanks man". Alex managed a wobbly smile which no doubt looked ugly. "Go ahead with the guys, I will meet you guys at the restaurant when I am done changing". Alex said, Finn still looked worried but left.
Imagine Dragons Believer blasted into the air and he scrambled to get his phone out of his pocket. Anna, he sighed, not in the mood for any more pity, he refused the call and sent a simple text.
*I am fine don't worry, I am having dinner with my teammates, text you when I am done*. Not waiting for a reply, he dropped his phone and went to shower.
By the time he was done with his shower, the entire building was empty and he was sure no other soul was present, grabbing his backpack, he left the changing room, down the hallway he noticed a male and female figure pressed together, looking more closely it was Vincent and a gorgeous lady.
Alex chuckled to himself as expected Vincent was stiil the same, he was sure Isabella was his girlfriend but here he was wrapped around another woman, he took out his phone ready to make a video of the adulterous couple, he was sure Isabella would appreciate the enlightenment.
Well things got heated pretty quickly, Alex wasn't sure if he was hallucinating or seeing reality as he watched Vincent slammed the lady's head into the wall and throw her limp body on the floor, Alex chocked down a scream, heartbeat accelerating so fast he was shocked he wasn't having an heart attack. Yes Alex knew there had always been something shady about Vincent, but he never pinned the guy as a murderer, just when Alex finally grabbed his phone with sweaty palms and was about to call the police, the lady's body twitched amd she sat back up.
"Tch! you just wouldn't remain dead will you?". Vincent asked coldly.
"Ain't I too pretty to die". She shrugged, as she stood up, blood dripping down her head and soaking her dress. "That's going to be hard to replace". She frowned at the pool of blood gathering at her feet. "What are you?".
"You can't tell?". Vincent asked as his amber eyes glowed.
"Well I am going to find out when I feast on your delicious blood". She growled as she moved in a blur towards Vincent.
Vincent reamined standing as he grabbed her neck, she struggled in his hold, but he simply ran his hand through her chest, Alex watched in horror as Vincent ripped out her heart, the lady's body along with her heart turning into ash immediately.
"Disgusting". Vincent frowned, Alex wasn't sure if he was talking about the blood or the corpse ash that landed on his clothes.
Maybe he could escape whatever this was alive, Alex thought as he watched him walk away, but like that dumb protagonist in every movie his phone rang, the sound loud enough to wake the dead, a gust of wind was all he felt on his face as a smiling Vincent stood in front of him, his phone falling onto the floor in a loud clatter immediately going silent.
"Well look who we have here, little Alexander".
"You, what are you?". He gasped as he moved backwards, eyes wide with fear as he gazed at Vincent's glowing eyes.
"Wouldn't you like to know?". He smirked.
"Please let me go I saw nothing, I won't say anything". He cried.
"Of course you won't, the dead tell no tales after all". He laughed.
"You, you, you". He stuttered.
"Me, me, me".
Alex felt the punch before he even saw it, his conciousness blurring into pain and darkness.
