Chapter 6 - 6. Departure

Spending money has never felt so enjoyable. After making several purchases, Jason Liu still felt a bit unsatisfied.

Sure, spending money is fun for a while, and it always feels good.

I finally understand the joy of being wealthy; it's so uncomplicated.

In three days, Jason Liu finished reading the original novel, and his online shopping orders started arriving one by one.

Looking at his room filled with boxes of soap, gel pens, and a large stack of A4 paper, Jason felt a sense of accomplishment.

He was excited about the Tour of Thrones world tour happening tomorrow.

That evening, after dinner, Jason got busy packing his backpack. He stuffed in some bread, ham sausages, and bottles of mineral water. He also added 50 gel pens, 200 refills, and 100 sheets of A4 paper.

He planned to sell these items first to see how people in the other world would react.

Jason still didn't know much about the prices and currency exchange in the Game of Thrones world, so he wanted to start with small orders, learn more about the situation, and then move to larger shipments.

Over the past few days, he had been trying to get a feel for the Game of Thrones world. Based on the environment and the cold climate, he guessed he must be in the North, though he wasn't sure where, and he was quite far from Winterfell.

While he was deep in thought, his phone rang.

Glancing at the caller ID, he saw it was his mother, Mama Liu. He picked up the phone, feeling happy. "Hello, Mom!"

"Jason, are you off work? Have you eaten dinner?" Liu's mother's cheerful voice filled the line. She hadn't called in a month, and it was clear she was concerned about her son's well-being.

"I've eaten..." He hesitated, remembering that he had been fired from his job. He decided not to tell his parents and instead said vaguely, "I got off work; I didn't work overtime tonight."

Not wanting his mother to probe into his work situation, Jason quickly asked, "Mom, where's Dad? Did he eat dinner?"

"We've eaten. Your dad went out to watch the dance in the village square!" Liu Mama replied with a smile.

Thanks to the National New Rural Policy, the once poor and messy villages now had flat, neat concrete roads, and a square was built in the village. In the evenings, people would gather in the square to dance.

Everyone came together to chat and dance, creating a lively atmosphere, which was nice.

From what Jason knew, his mother also enjoyed joining the square dances in the evenings.

In recent years, life had improved for everyone.

Mother and son chatted for over an hour. Besides discussing daily life, Liu Mama began urging Jason about marriage again.

She mentioned whose child was the same age as him and how they were already having kids, along with tales of who was going on blind dates and getting ready to marry at the end of the year.

Listening to his mother's persistent hints about marriage made Jason feel both amused and exasperated. He could only laugh and say he was too busy with work but would definitely find a girlfriend when he had time.

"Don't forget; it would be great if you could bring your girlfriend home for the New Year this year," she reminded him before they hung up.

With a wry smile, Jason understood his parents' concerns. In the countryside, people often marry early compared to those in the city, and they didn't want their son to be in his thirties without a partner.

Jason's sister was 27 years old, three years older than him. She had two children now: a six-year-old daughter named Lila and a four-year-old son named Noah.

No wonder the family was worried about him.

After taking a shower and lying on his bed, Jason turned on his phone. His university classmates were still active in their WeChat group.

More than two years after entering the workforce, the once carefree classmates had become pragmatic and money-driven due to the realities of life.

In the past, the group discussions had been about grades, games, and fun times in school. Now, the conversations were filled with complaints and changes in behavior.

In the two years since graduation, Jason rarely contributed to the group chats.

As a student from Zheng University, he felt out of place and miserable.

If he didn't fit in well, he had no desire to interact with his acquaintances, and he certainly wasn't going to join in the group chatter.

He could only watch quietly as others shared their lives online.

However, after his recent adventure that allowed him to travel between two worlds, all his previous embarrassment faded away.

Now, he felt a surge of confidence about the future.

After silently observing the group for more than ten minutes, Jason turned off his phone, preparing to go to sleep and recharge for the day ahead.

The next morning, Jason woke up before 7 a.m. He hadn't slept well the night before.

After washing up and having breakfast, he dressed in a stab-resistant suit, a black down jacket, and hiking boots.

His backpack was already filled with food, drinks, and goods he planned to trade with the people of Westeros.

Looking at his fully charged electric bike, he put on his travel bag, mounted the bike, and started his journey.

Swah——

Woohoo—

It was just past 7 a.m. in the Game of Thrones world, and it was still a bit dark, but he could see the ground in the distance.

As Jason rode his electric bike, he noticed there were no people around—only large patches of scorched land with sparse green weeds growing in the distance.

"Where am I?" he wondered.

He looked at the same scenery surrounding him and couldn't figure out where he was heading.

Pulling out a simple compass he had bought for his travels, he didn't even think about whether the magnetic fields in the Game of Thrones world were the same as on Earth. He just followed the compass south.

As long as he kept going south, he believed he would eventually find people.

Riding his bike along the bumpy road, Jason continued south.

As he progressed, the scenery began to change.

The ground started to show more green grass, and he even spotted a few bushes.

This change indicated that he was indeed heading south, meaning the compass worked in this world.

After riding for more than two hours, Jason took out his phone to check the time. It was past 11 a.m.

He had been on the road for over three hours.

Luckily, the terrain was hard and solid, allowing his electric bike to move smoothly.

However, even with that, the bike's battery was nearly drained.

With no other choice, Jason turned back to his rental house to recharge the bike.

After charging the electric bike, he quickly ate a bowl of hot instant noodles, took a half-hour break, and prepared to enter the Game of Thrones world again.

This time, without the electric bike, he left his backpack at the rental house and began to walk through the northern wilderness.

Following the compass's direction south, he kept going.

Finally, after walking for over an hour, when Jason was too tired to continue, he saw the outline of another cottage in the distance.
