Chapter 7 - Plastic Bags

A long sigh came out of Bridget's mouth as she was standing on the balcony and watching four men walking inside the house with her father.

Hudson said he would hire a bodyguard… A bodyguard, just one, not four, but here she is now, just accepting her fate and her father's decision because she knows that Hudson won't let her stay here without these men.

Those men are police officers, they are not even bodyguards, but that's probably better in Hudson's opinion because they are his friends and will take care of his daughter way better than a stranger.

"Bridget, come downstairs." Hudson's voice echoed inside the house.

Bridget was about to go and meet her father's friends but her eyes caught a glimpse of Teddy's owner calmly walking out of his house and heading toward a white Versatile Tiguan that was waiting for him right next to the sidewalk that's close to his house.

This guy seriously belongs in some modeling agency, not in the real world.

Although his clothing style is so cozy and simple, it looks attractive and elegant.

Teddy's owner walked to the vehicle and got in the backseat, soon after that, the car moved away from Bridget's sight.

Her father introduced her to the four policemen, only to find out that Hudson did not lie to her about having just one guy to guard her because these officers would take turns.

"They are keeping both of us under their sight," suddenly uttered Hudson, who was stirring whatever he was frying in the pan.

Of course, when the authorities found the message with Julian's dead body, they could not afford to lose Hudson, so they had to hire some men to keep them safe.

Bridget, on the other hand, was watching a movie in the living room alone and waiting for her dad to prepare dinner for both of them. "Yeah, that's great, dad. Did Julian know that you are the one who found the footage?"

"No, he didn't." Bridget just hummed while randomly playing with the remote controller. "This can sound insane, but what if someone from the police station or one of the detectives were with the Segas?"

Hudson stopped what he was doing for a second before shaking his head. "That's not possible, Bridget. We would have found out. It has been twelve years since we started working on this case. There is no way someone from the Segas can hide for this long in the police department."

Bridget was not convinced by what her father said. Even Hudson had some doubts now after hearing Bridget's point.

There was a moment of silence between them; Hudson kept cooking while Bridget's gaze landed on Teddy's owner, who was getting out of the car.

It's almost the middle of the night, and due to how calm the guy is, he seemed suspicious, which is why Bridget could not help but rush toward the window to keep an eye on her neighbor, who was strangely still wearing his sunglasses even though there was no sun, and silently walked to the trunk of the car and opened it.

Bridget's eyes narrowed when she noticed Teddy's owner taking a big black plastic bag from the car's trunk and closing it again.

The car quickly left after this while Teddy's owner was about to walk inside the house, but he got startled by Teddy, who came running to his arms.

This brought a very tiny grin to its owner, who crouched down.

"Agh, I'm so stupid," Bridget uttered in frustration as she mentally facepalmed herself for suspecting the poor innocent man who crouched down and opened the black plastic bag just to take some dog treats out of it… Bridget could see some dogs' toys and food in it, but because of how much Hudson kept telling her not to trust sweet people or people that look nice, her mind started suspecting everyone and everything.

"Dinner is ready."
