Chapter 9 - Chapter 008 - The Task

[Automated Response: Used Skill Scroll: Impact. Acquired Skill: Impact.]

[System Notice: This skill will be… IMPACTful to your future benefits.]

If it was possible for Shay to look more dead than he already did… He would. Given that he could respond to the system via thought, he asked: 'System, is it okay to curse?'

[Annoyed: Yes.]

'System, is it okay to curse at you?'

[Generating Response: 1 hour for 1 billion federation coins.]

'Okay, thanks. Just curious.'

Now noting that any and every skill could be dragonized (to an extent), AND added to his soul tree, he looked around the market.

Nodding to himself, he looked around until he was able to find a couple items he had been looking for.

"Item A: Rice Seeds. Item B: Muoiealk (Actually Milk, but Lia called it this so it stuck). Item C: Disco Ball."

Previously, he hadn't been looking for the disco ball, but the system had been like, "Hey, you can bind to this," and he was all like, "Whatever."

The rice seeds were to make use of the new system 'world.' The milk was for his sister. The disco ball was for the system. For himself, he decided upon item D with the money he had leftover. There was barely any money left, but there was still a skill scroll left in the Adventurer's Department Exchange Center. Why?

Nobody respectable would ever use it. The skill was called, "Ripple." The effect was a passive skill. Basically, the user's body would ripple every tine it got hit. While this was definitely a hot item in the black market, and could be used for soul-shattering purposes, the poor beggar owning it was selling it in the most prestigious of places. The Adventurer's Department Exchange Center. Who would dirty their hands and put this on their public buying record?

Yet another reason for most to avoid the Adventurers Department. For Shay, though, it brought an opportunity. He could use this skill as an added protection in low-tier dungeons.

"Hello. I'd like to buy this." Shay stated as he walked up to the counter.

"Ah! Really?!" The old beggar's excitement quickened. "I'll sell it to you for a whole soul core." He said imperiously. Looking around he added, "Give me a second soul core, and I'll tell you where I found it."

Shay smiled. He had started with six cores from the goblins, but had received Goro's lion's share. Crash's was abnormally large as well, but that was split between the various E-rank adventurers.

He had managed to obtain 56 soul cores. 10 of these were exchanged for 10K federation credits. with 46 remaining, he used 10 on the D-grade Disco Ball and 30 on the "Blood Rice Seeds.' He was only left with six of the original 56.

He quickly traded two of his E-rank goblin soul-cores. The beggar was ecstatic. He quickly traded the soul cores for federation credits and left the exchange.

Did Shay feel bad about giving him a low deal? No. While an F-Rank Adventurer could enter an F-rank portal, it required a team of ability users, as F-Rank abilities were, generally speaking, weak as peace in a movie centered on sharks.

Since he was the only one here, it was fairly obvious. He had either duped or slain the rest of his team.

Yeah, Shay was *not* going to give him extra.

'System, use skill scroll: Ripple.'

[Curious: Analyzing {Skill Scroll: Ripple.} Dragonization ocurring. {Skill: Ripple} has transformed from {Ripple} to {Charm Mirage: Ripple.} Now imbuing skill into user's soul tree.]

[Sytem Notice: Ding! New Skill: {Charm Mirage: Ripple (F)} acquired. Skill Effects: Your skin will ripple every time it gets hit. However, your body will remain coiled. The ripple will reduce incoming damage by 3%. For every ripple effect, the user has a 5% chance to increase charm. Upgradeable.]

Looking around, Shay saw the smirks and general disdain thrown in his direction. However, his face was firm as he moved forward to the exit. 'Damn. I want him.' This simole thought hit the minds of six women and one man as he left the building. However, seeing Shay's disinterest, they decided collectively to wait until a more opportune time.
