You came with fragrance from chestnut blossom,
with umbrella shielded crisp rain from dome,
with western wind wrinkled west lake forehead,
with gray cloud covered whole sky overhead.
You left like bird of eternal freedom,
like raindrop dropped in amber lake bosom,
like snowflake dropped on snow sealed mountain head,
like peach petal fluttered down petal bed.
You condensed moonlight shone through my window,
peeking yearning turned tears bedewed pillow,
as though you were here as close as in sight,
as though you were there as far as moonlight.
You condensed wind carried gray cloud away,
drifting with cloud like tide drifted with spray.
