Canoe drifted with wind on crooning stream,
canoe drifted like petal in sunbeam,
like yellow leaf beneath blue side of sky,
when fisherman fished on canoe with sigh.
Fisherman watched streamshores lined reed with dew,
and fished on canoe like peaceful statue,
like silent willow shadow on water,
when canoe sailed along pale spray flower.
Just fished without bait when fish swam in stream,
just fished without hook when thread hid in beam,
just fished with music when stream echoed tide,
when canoe's paddle rippled alongside.
Fisherman fished like reed on willow shore,
till setting sun reddened silent harbor.
