Chapter 8 - Aria's Journey To The Past

Aria sat with Thorne in the cottage, her eyes serious as she explained her plan. "Thorne, I need to leave for a while. I'm going to find my sister, Lila. She's a skilled warrior, and I want her to help teach Elara the ways of the sword." Thorne's brow furrowed in concern. "Aria, is this necessary? Elara is still young, and the road to Brindlemark is treacherous." Aria's expression was resolute. "I know, but Lila is the best warrior I know. She was always gifted with a sword, even as a young girl. I remember when we were children, she would defeat even the boys in the village in mock battles, her movements swift and precise. Our mother would say, 'Lila, you're a natural-born warrior!'" Thorne listened intently as Aria shared stories of their childhood. "One time, a group of bandits attacked our village. Lila, only twelve years old then, grabbed a sword and fought alongside our father and the guards. She was fearless, Thorne, and her skill was undeniable. The bandits didn't stand a chance." Aria's eyes sparkled with pride. "After that, our father began training her formally. She became his apprentice, and soon surpassed even his skills. When we were older, we would spar together, and I could barely keep up with her. She's the reason I learned to fight at all." Thorne nodded, understanding the importance of Aria's quest. "I see. If anyone can teach Elara the ways of the sword, it's Lila. But please, be careful on your journey. We'll miss you here." Aria smiled, her face set with determination. "I will, Thorne. I promise. And I'll return with Lila, ready to help our daughter become the warrior she's meant to be." Aria bid farewell to Thorne and Elara, her heart heavy with the weight of her mission. She had to find her sister, Lila, in their hometown of Brindlemark, a place she had not set foot in for many years. The memories of her past lingered, but she pushed them aside, focusing on the present. As she departed Eldridge, Thorne and Elara watched her go, their faces etched with concern and longing. Elara, especially, clung to her mother's cloak, her eyes brimming with tears. "Mother, when will you return?" Elara asked, her voice trembling. Aria knelt down, embracing her daughter. "Soon, my dear. I promise. I must find your aunt Lila, and she will help us prepare you for the challenges ahead." Thorne placed a comforting hand on Elara's shoulder. "We will be fine, Elara. Your mother will return, and we will face whatever comes together, as a family." Elara nodded, her eyes still fixed on Aria's receding figure. Thorne knew that the days ahead would be difficult, but he was determined to keep Elara safe and strong until Aria's return. As Aria disappeared into the horizon, Thorne and Elara returned to the cottage, their hearts heavy with her absence. They knew that Aria's journey was crucial, but they couldn't help but feel the emptiness left by her departure. As Aria prepared to depart the village, she encountered Glimble, the village jester, standing by the gate. His usually cheerful face was etched with a mix of sadness and concern. "Aria, my dear, are you leaving us?" Glimble asked, his voice tinged with melancholy. Aria smiled wistfully. "I must, Glimble. I have to find my sister, Lila. But I'll return, I promise." Glimble nodded, his eyes welling up with tears. "I know, I know. It's just...the village won't be the same without you. You're the only one who truly appreciates my...unique brand of humor." Aria chuckled, despite the bittersweet moment. "Oh, Glimble, you always know how to make me laugh. Even on the most serious of days." Glimble's face brightened, and he launched into a series of silly impressions, his voice booming across the village square. "Farewell, Aria! May the road rise up to meet you, and may your journey be filled with laughter and joy!" As Aria bid Glimble farewell, he handed her a small pouch. "A little something for the road. A few of my famous 'Glimble's Giggle-Inducing Gummies' to keep you smiling on your travels." Aria laughed, tucking the pouch into her belt. "Thank you, dear Glimble. You always know how to lift my spirits." she added, "And, Glimble, take care of Elara for me, too. She's going to need your special brand of cheer while I'm away." Glimble's expression turned solemn, and he nodded gravely. "I will, Aria. I'll keep an eye on her, and make sure she doesn't get too serious. I'll teach her some of my famous jokes, and we'll have the whole village laughing together!" Aria smiled, feeling a sense of relief knowing that Glimble would be there for Elara. "Thank you, Glimble. You're a true friend." With a final wave, Aria departed, leaving Glimble to his antics, but carrying the memory of his jests and the warmth of their friendship with her on her journey. In the days that followed, Thorne and Elara went about their routines, but the house felt hollow without Aria's presence. Elara trained on her own, her movements swift and determined, but her eyes often strayed to the gate, hoping to see her mother's return. Thorne, too, felt the weight of Aria's absence, his thoughts consumed by the unknown dangers she might face on her journey. He paced the halls, his mind racing with scenarios, his heart aching with every passing day. Yet, they both knew that Aria's quest was essential, and they patiently waited for her return, their love and support a beacon of hope in the darkness. Aria arrived in Brindlemark after a long and arduous journey of many days. As she entered the town, she was struck by its familiarity and charm. The thatched roofs and wooden buildings seemed unchanged since her childhood. She made her way through the bustling market square, nodding to the locals who greeted her with a mix of curiosity and warmth. Finally, she stopped in front of a small cottage on the outskirts of town, her heart racing with anticipation. Aria stood outside the small cottage, her heart racing with anticipation and nerves. It had been years since she last saw her sister, Lila. The memories of their childhood, their mother's passing, and their subsequent estrangement flooded her mind. She took a deep breath and knocked on the door. The door creaked open, and Lila's piercing gaze met hers. Aria's heart skipped a beat as she beheld her sister, unchanged yet different, with a hint of bitterness in her eyes. "Aria," Lila said, her voice firm but laced with emotion. "It's been a long time." Aria smiled, hoping to bridge the gap between them. "Lila, I've come to ask for your help. I need you to teach Elara the ways of the sword." Lila's expression turned skeptical. "Elara? Your daughter with Thorne?" Aria nodded, her eyes pleading for understanding. "Yes, Lila. She's growing up, and I want her to be prepared for the challenges ahead. You're the best warrior I know, and I trust you to teach her well." Lila's gaze narrowed, her voice laced with resentment. "You left me, Aria. You left our hometown, our family's legacy, and our mother's memory behind. You chose Thorne and Eldridge over me, over us." Aria's heart ached, knowing she had caused her sister pain. "Lila, I know I hurt you, and for that, I'm truly sorry. But I had to follow my heart, my destiny. And now, I'm asking you to help me protect my daughter's future." Lila's expression softened slightly, and she stepped aside, allowing Aria to enter. "Come in, sister. We have much to discuss." As they sat by the fire, Aria explained her reasons for seeking Lila's help, and Lila listened intently, her eyes gleaming with a mix of emotions. Aria knew she had to convince her sister, to make amends for the past and secure a better future for Elara. Meanwhile, back in Eldridge, Thorne watched over Elara, his eyes filled with concern as he wondered when Aria would return. Little did he know, Aria's journey was just beginning, and the path ahead would be fraught with challenges, revelations, and the hope of reuniting two sisters who had once been inseparable.
