Exercise 3: Retrocognition Through Photographs
Photographs often capture more than just the physical image—they can also hold the emotional energy of the moment they were taken. This exercise will guide you in reading the past through a photograph.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Select an Old Photograph: Choose a photograph that you don't know much about, but that has historical or personal significance. The photo should feature people, places, or events from the past.
Hold the Photograph in Your Hands: Sit quietly and hold the photograph gently in your hands. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, relaxing your body and clearing your mind.
Ask to See the Past: Mentally ask the photograph to show you the moments or emotions captured within it. Open yourself to receiving images, sensations, or emotions tied to the people or events in the photo.
Observe Any Impressions: Pay attention to any images that arise in your mind's eye—do you see people moving, hear voices, or feel emotions? These may be subtle, so trust whatever comes, even if it's vague or fleeting.
Reflect on the Photograph's History: After the exercise, write down the impressions you received. If possible, ask someone who knows the history of the photograph about the people or events it captures, and compare your insights.
