Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The First Collision.

The grand hall of the Seoul Royal Hotel shimmered under the glittering chandeliers. The music played softly in the background, setting the elegant atmosphere for the night. Guests mingled, discussing fashion, business, and everything in between, while sipping on champagne and taking in the extravagant display of wealth and power. Yet, despite the crowd, the room buzzed with anticipation for the arrival of two particular guests—Isla Han and Jin Woo Kang.

Isla stepped into the hall, all eyes on her. The ice-blue gown she wore was both daring and understated, a perfect balance of boldness and elegance. Her posture was impeccable, her chin held high, and her expression calm—giving nothing away. She had long mastered the art of concealing her emotions, especially when entering the lion's den.

Jin Woo, standing near the center of the room, noticed her immediately. The moment Isla entered, the air seemed to shift, drawing attention to the tension crackling between them. His eyes traveled up and down, sizing her up. She looked just as untouchable as ever—poised, confident, and utterly in control.

Ethan nudged Jin Woo, breaking him out of his trance. "She's here. This is your moment."

Jin Woo gave a slow nod, handing his drink to a nearby waiter. "Let's see if she's as unshakeable as she appears."

He weaved through the crowd, effortlessly charming those who stopped to greet him, but never taking his eyes off Isla. She had noticed him, of course—how could she not? She could feel his gaze, feel the energy radiating off of him as he approached. But she didn't acknowledge him. Not yet.

Instead, she found Mason by the bar and leaned in slightly to speak with him. "Is everything in place?"

Mason nodded, his nervousness evident in the way he fidgeted with his drink. "Yes, Ms. Han. The strategy is set, and we've already arranged meetings with some of the key investors. They're interested."

"Good," she replied, her voice sharp and decisive. "Let's not get complacent. This gala is a distraction, but we're here to solidify connections."

Before Mason could respond, a deep voice cut through the conversation.

"I didn't think you'd actually come, Isla."

Isla turned slowly, her expression carefully controlled. And there he was—Jin Woo, standing before her, his signature smirk firmly in place. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, exuding the same casual confidence that had always irked her. His presence alone seemed to command the room, but Isla refused to let it affect her.

"Why wouldn't I?" Isla's tone was cool, detached. "I don't run from challenges, Jin Woo."

He chuckled softly, his dark eyes twinkling with amusement. "No, I suppose you don't. But this isn't just another boardroom, Isla. I hope you're ready for what comes next."

Isla raised an eyebrow, refusing to be rattled. "I think the real question is—are you?"

The two stood in silence for a brief moment, their eyes locked. The rivalry between them was palpable, but underneath the surface, something else flickered—something both of them were too proud to acknowledge. It was more than competition. There was curiosity, intrigue, a strange draw that neither could quite explain.

But before the tension could spiral, they were interrupted by the sound of clinking glasses. A toast was being made, and the crowd's attention shifted to the front of the room where the host of the gala was welcoming the guests.

Jin Woo turned slightly, breaking eye contact. "Looks like we're missing the main event. Shall we?"

Isla glanced toward the front, then back at Jin Woo. She hated this—being drawn into his games, his provocations. But she wasn't about to show weakness, not here, not now.

"I wouldn't want to miss it," she said, her voice sharp.

They moved through the crowd together, though not side by side. There was a deliberate distance between them, as if neither was willing to concede ground, even in something as simple as walking through a room. The guests noticed, of course. How could they not? Isla Han and Jin Woo Kang were legends in the business world, and seeing them in the same room, at the same event, was nothing short of sensational.

As they reached the front, the host, a well-known figure in the fashion industry, raised his glass in celebration. "Tonight, we celebrate not only the success of Kang Enterprises but the continued innovation and growth of our industry. Here's to pushing boundaries, breaking limits, and setting new standards for excellence!"

The room erupted into applause, but Isla's eyes remained on Jin Woo. She could see the satisfaction in his expression—the quiet confidence of a man who knew he was winning, or at least believed he was.

But Isla wasn't here to play by his rules.

As the applause died down, Jin Woo turned to her once again, his voice low and smooth. "Enjoying the show?"

"I've seen better," she replied, her tone icy.

Jin Woo laughed softly, clearly entertained by her refusal to give him any ground. "You never fail to impress, Isla. Always so composed, so...detached."

Isla met his gaze, refusing to let him get under her skin. "That's what it takes to stay on top, Jin Woo. Something you should know well."

"Oh, I do," he said, his voice dropping just slightly. "But there's more to life than staying on top. There's passion. Emotion. Connection."

Isla's heart skipped a beat, though she would never admit it. Jin Woo's words were laced with more meaning than she expected. For the first time, she saw a glimpse of something behind his usual bravado—something real.

But she wouldn't let herself be distracted.

"Passion is for those who can't handle control," she replied smoothly. "I prefer to keep my focus."

"Is that what you tell yourself?" Jin Woo asked, his eyes narrowing slightly. "That all you need is focus?"

"Focus is what got me here," Isla said, her voice unwavering. "It's what will keep me here."

Jin Woo tilted his head slightly, studying her. "Maybe. But it's also what keeps you alone."

The words hit harder than Isla expected, but she didn't flinch. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing her react. Instead, she smiled—a cold, calculated smile that revealed nothing.

"I'd rather be alone than distracted by someone like you," she said, her tone razor-sharp.

Jin Woo's smirk returned, but there was something different in his eyes now—something deeper. "We'll see, Isla. We'll see."

The rest of the evening passed in a blur of conversation, networking, and subtle power plays. Isla remained composed, speaking with investors and clients, but her mind kept drifting back to her earlier exchange with Jin Woo. There was something about him—something she couldn't quite put her finger on. He wasn't just her rival anymore. He was...more.

But that was dangerous territory. Isla had built her entire career on control, on focus, on keeping her emotions in check. She wasn't about to let someone like Jin Woo Kang unravel all of that.

And yet, as the night drew to a close and she made her way to the exit, she couldn't help but glance back at him one last time.

Jin Woo was standing by the bar, speaking with a group of investors. But as if sensing her gaze, he looked up, their eyes meeting across the room.

For a moment, neither of them moved. The tension between them crackled once again, the weight of unspoken words and unresolved feelings hanging in the air.

Then, with a small smirk, Jin Woo raised his glass to her—a silent toast, a challenge, a promise.

Isla's heart raced, but she quickly turned and walked out of the gala, her heels clicking against the marble floor.

She had a game to win, and she wasn't about to let Jin Woo Kang get in her way.
