Chapter 60 - Doctor, I can't hold on any longer

Lin Mian felt that she must have been experiencing auditory hallucinations, that's why she heard the man's voice. She wanted to say something.

But everything went black in front of her, and she lost consciousness.

...

When Lin Mian woke up, there was a lot of noise around her. She looked around and found herself lying on the sofa in the living room.

Several police officers surrounded her, and she saw some fresh bloodstains on her arm.

One of the police officers asked her, "Little girl, are you okay? Someone called in reporting a murder here. You are involved, right? Come with us to the police station to make a statement."

As the police officer finished speaking, they heard the hoarse roar of Zhao Guilan from outside.

"What's wrong with me beating my own daughter? Why do you care? It's my right as a mother to discipline my own daughter. That little brat dared to call the police. I'll teach her a lesson!"

There was a commotion and clamor in the yard, with onlookers gathering around.

As Lin Mian was about to leave with the police, Zhao Guilan spotted her. Her eyes were red with rage, and she raised her hand as if to strike.

"Lin Mian, you little bitch, how dare you call the police? I'll beat you to death!"

"Stop, don't move, don't hit her."

Despite the stern warning from the police, Zhao Guilan was undeterred.

She was blocked by several police officers, staring at Lin Mian like a madwoman, and suddenly burst into uncontrollable laughter.

"Lin Mian, you've got guts, calling the cops on me. Do you want me dead, huh? Will you be happy when I'm gone? Just wait, I'll make you regret it for the rest of your life!"

With those words, she suddenly turned and ran to the woodshed, picked up a bottle of pesticide from the ground, and poured it down her throat!

The green liquid flowed down her chin, emitting a pungent odor.

"She drank pesticide?"

"Goodness, that's a lethal poison!"

Lin Mian widened her eyes, unable to believe what she saw, and shouted, "Mom!"

The villagers around were in an uproar, rushing to snatch the pesticide bottle from Zhao Guilan's hands. But she had already consumed a few mouthfuls, and now she glared at Lin Mian with bloodshot eyes.

"You said I killed someone, right? I'll show you how it's done!"

She grabbed a knife from somewhere and slashed her wrist...

Blood gushed out instantly, dripping onto the ground.

Lin Mian stood there completely stunned.

She was a lunatic.

A lunatic who didn't care about her own life!

The scene was in utter chaos, with Zhao Guilan dropping the knife with a loud clang, foaming at the mouth, and convulsing before passing out.

"Quick, get her to the hospital for emergency treatment!"

Someone shouted, and Lin Mian snapped back to reality, desperately pushing through the crowd to reach Zhao Guilan, who was now motionless with a pale face.

Her mind was buzzing.

...

A group of people rushed Zhao Guilan to the town hospital, where she underwent gastric lavage and wound dressing.

Lin Mian sat dazedly on a chair outside the emergency room, her face as white as a sheet.

She knew Zhao Guilan had always been crazy, but she never expected her to go this far, not even caring about her own life.

Sitting next to her, Lin Zheng was also stunned, and he turned to look at Lin Mian, suddenly saying in a sinister tone, "Lin Mian, you've crippled Dad and killed Mom. Are you satisfied now?"

Lin Mian absurdly looked at him, "What do you mean?"

"If you had just listened to Mom obediently, would she end up like this? All she did was pull your hair and bang your head against the wall a few times. You've been beaten by her before when you were little. Was it really necessary to call the cops on her? If she dies in there, you'll be a matricide for life!"

Lin Mian looked at his cold face and felt a chill running through her heart.

She realized that for someone accustomed to being abused, standing up for oneself occasionally was a sin.

Unforgivable.

Clutching her hands tightly, her fingertips trembled as if they didn't belong to her.

The phone vibrated, and Lin Mian lowered her head to see the name flashing on the screen. For some reason, her breathing inexplicably calmed a bit.

Holding onto the phone, she felt like she had grabbed a lifeline.

Lin Mian stood up and hid in the dark corridor to answer the call.

"Hello..."

"You can still answer the phone, it seems you're not dead yet." A cold and indifferent voice came from the other end, carrying the usual calmness.

Lin Mian's heart skipped a beat, and she gripped the phone tighter.

"Dr. Shi," her voice trembled uncontrollably, "I can't hold on any longer."
