Chapter 28 - "Please, be cute, let me take you home."

As a tall figure suddenly burst in! He grabbed the man by the back of his collar and dragged him to the ground, "Bang," a solid fist greeted his face.

One punch after another, mercilessly.

"Ah ah ah..."

The man was beaten defenseless, lying on the ground in pain, his face covered in blood, almost half-dead.

Until the man's screams gradually weakened, Shi Lin stood up and kicked him a few more times, making sure he couldn't get up, before checking on Lin Mian's condition.

"How are you, are you injured?" Lin Mian gasped anxiously, clutching the blanket on the bed tightly around herself, tears uncontrollably streaming down her face.

Shi Lin saw that half of her face was swollen, imprinted with a palm mark, her long hair in disarray, her expression dull, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.

He walked up, pulled back the blanket, took the bedsheet and wrapped her up, lifting her and carrying her outside.

At the doorway, Shi Lin caught a glimpse of the dropped phone on the floor, he bent down, picked it up, and threw it into her arms.

...

Lin Mian was carried by Shi Lin and stuffed into the car, unable to come back to her senses for a long time. Not until Shi Lin was about to pull back the sheet on her body did Lin Mian shudder sharply, reflexively avoiding his hand.

"Let me see if you are hurt." Shi Lin reminded.

Lin Mian's emotions slowly relaxed, staring blankly at Shi Lin, hoarsely saying, "Call the police, continue to call the police."

Shi Lin said, "I've already called the police, they will be here soon. Be good, open up the sheet and let me check your body."

Lin Mian shook her head and said, "I'm not hurt, I'm fine."

"With such a big palm mark on your face, and you're saying you're fine?" Shi Lin coldly retorted.

Lin Mian bit her lip and remained silent, wrapping herself tightly, huddling in the front passenger seat, refusing to let Shi Lin touch her head bowed.

Taking a deep breath, Shi Lin had no choice but to turn on the car's heating system.

His hands were still stained with blood, emitting a faint smell of blood. He took out a packet of alcohol wipes from the car cabinet and wiped his hands carefully.

In a few minutes, the sound of a police car siren came from downstairs, and a police car with flashing lights stopped.

It was Shi Lin who called the police on the way here.

Shi Lin got out of the car and talked to the police for a while. Several police officers then went upstairs and soon came back down with the drunken man from before in custody.

The man was taken into the police car, and the police confirmed the information with Shi Lin, requesting the victim to go to the police station to make a statement.

Shi Lin nodded and turned back to the car.

"I'll take you to make a statement first. Can you go to the police station in your current state? Are you able to?"

Lin Mian subconsciously nodded upon hearing his words.

"Yes."

"Alright, buckle up your seat belt," Shi Lin reminded.

Lin Mian silently reached out to buckle her seat belt, with the police car lights flashing ahead, while Shi Lin's car followed closely behind them.

On the way, Lin Mian finally calmed down, wiping away her tears and expressing her gratitude.

"Thank you."

If he hadn't come in at a critical moment, the consequences for her would have been unimaginable.

Shi Lin gave a slight pull of his lips and said, "You personally called for help. I couldn't just stand by and do nothing. What's there to thank me for?"

Lin Mian was stunned for two seconds. "I clearly called the police..."

How did the call end up on Shi Lin's phone?

And she had deleted his number, how did she manage to dial it so precisely?

"The call for help reached me. It seems your fingers were quite precise," Shi Lin made a light joke. "You're lucky that you dialed the right number by accident. If it had been someone else, you might have been..."

He didn't finish the sentence.

Lin Mian shuddered with fear and wrapped herself even tighter.

At the police station, after completing the statement, it was already two hours later.

Due to the strong evidence, the drunken man was temporarily detained in the detention center until he sobered up and further actions could be taken.

After a long night of turmoil, Lin Mian was exhausted. As they left the police station, a cold breeze swept by, causing her to shiver unexpectedly.

Following her, Shi Lin drove the car and stopped in front of her. In unspoken agreement, Lin Mian opened the car door and sat inside.

The Land Rover started and slowly left the police station.

"Are we going back?" Shi Lin asked.

Lin Mian nodded, "Back."

Shi Lin turned the steering wheel and took a turn on the road.

"We're not going the right way. It's too late, I need to go back to Eight Corners. Will you take the bus back?" Shi Lin inquired.

Lin Mian nodded in agreement, "Okay."

Shi Lin changed the route and drove to Eight Corners.

The Land Rover parked in the garage, the engine turned off, and the vehicle remained still.

Upon seeing this, Lin Mian once again expressed her gratitude to him, then opened the car door to leave.

But the next moment, Shi Lin grabbed her wrist.

"Are you going back?" he asked once more.

"Going back."

"Are you no longer afraid?" Shi Lin narrowed his eyes.

Lin Mian pursed her lips, her long eyelashes trembling, she lowered her head and said in a muted voice, "I'm afraid."

After such an incident, she couldn't possibly not be afraid. Moreover, the door had been kicked in, tonight there wasn't even a function to lock it from the inside.

But what difference did being afraid make? She had no choice and could only steel herself to go back.

"Will you seek help?" Shi Lin unexpectedly threw out a sentence.

"Hmm?" Lin Mian didn't react immediately.

Shi Lin grabbed her wrist and pulled her back, his tall and imposing figure looming closer, enveloping her entirely in his distinct masculine aura.

"Ask me, act cute, let me take you home."
