Chapter 18 - How did it happened?

The man in a white coat, sitting on the stairs, looked sharp. He held a cigarette between his long and well-defined fingers, the sparks flickering in the dim light.

He raised his eyes and casually stared at her, blowing a smoke ring.

"Looking for me?" His voice was cold and bland, tinged with a bit of lazy hoarseness after smoking, and even though he suddenly saw her here, there was no trace of surprise in his expression.

Lin Mian quickly shook her head, greeted him nervously, "What a coincidence, Doctor Shi. I am here for work, and my internship project happens to be in this hospital."

Afraid that he wouldn't believe her, she deliberately waved the measuring tool in her hand to prove that she was not bothering him.

From her impression, people like him should be annoyed by women pestering him.

Doctor Shi glanced at the tool in her hand for a couple of seconds, said nothing, extinguished his cigarette, and gave her the measuring spot in the corridor.

"Go ahead."

His words were short and to the point.

Lin Mian immediately understood, thanked him, and then walked into the corridor with the tool.

Coincidentally, at this moment, Qin Li followed from behind. When he saw Doctor Shi, the corner of his attractive eyebrows raised.

"Oh, Doctor Shi, not seeing patients and slacking off here?"

Doctor Shi rubbed his forehead and spoke in his usual chilly tone, "Just finished a surgery, came out to get some fresh air."

Qin Li nodded knowingly, "I understand. Doctors like you have great mental stress.""Occasionally relaxing and venting is necessary." Lin Mian listened attentively while working in the background.

She realized that even calm and composed doctors like him could experience mental stress. No wonder he was so wild in bed every time, probably letting off steam there...

"Oh, let me introduce you. This is my little apprentice, Lin Mian. You've met her at Bafang City last time. Do you remember?" Qin Li enthusiastically introduced.

Shi Lin glanced at Lin Mian, feeling speechless inwardly.

They didn't just meet, they also slept together...

"Lin Mian is a bit honest. She will come to the hospital frequently for measurements in the future. Please take care of her." Qin Li winked and greeted him.

Shi Lin's eyes paused for a moment, and he nodded lightly with a flat and emotionless voice, "Got it. It's time for me to see patients."

As he turned to leave, Qin Li suddenly slapped his forehead, turned to Lin Mian and said, "Oh right, Lin Mian, you had a stomachache, right? Why not let Doctor Shi take a look at it, he's going to see patients anyway."Lin Mian's stomachache was something he noticed by chance in the morning when she occasionally held her abdomen. Upon inquiry, he learned that it was an old problem for her. However, Shi Lin was extremely skilled in medicine and could easily diagnose it for her.

Upon hearing this, Lin Mian was suddenly horrified and quickly waved her hand to refuse, "It's okay, Teacher Qin, this is just an old issue of mine. There's no need to trouble the doctor."

As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Shi Lin casually lifting his eyelids and asking, "Oh? How exactly does it hurt?"

The phrase sounded familiar; he had asked her the same question last time.

Immediately feeling embarrassed, Lin Mian's ears grew slightly hot, "It's just a stomach problem, an old issue."

"Stomach problems should still be treated properly. Let Dr. Shi prescribe you some medicine and take good care of yourself," Qin Li chimed in.

"Alright, then let's go to my office," Shi Lin said.

This time, Lin Mian didn't even have the chance to refuse, as Qin Li enthusiastically pulled her along to Shi Lin's office.

It was the same consultation room as last time, and in just a few days, two more gratitude banners had been added to the walls, all gifts from relatives of patients. Lin Mian silently looked at the words on them, feeling a newfound respect for his medical skills.

His medical skills were indeed excellent; last time when she had a stomachache, the medicine he prescribed was both inexpensive and effective. Just one dose had already shown significant improvement.

"Sit down, extend your wrist," Shi Lin instructed.

Hearing the man's words, Lin Mian obediently sat down and extended her wrist.

Shi Lin raised his hand, and the warm and powerful fingertips pressed against her pulse, with a firm and heavy pressure that was indescribably oppressive.Lin Mian subconsciously held her breath, not daring to move. She had always thought that he was a Western doctor, but she never expected him to also practice traditional Chinese medicine. She had always had a mysterious admiration for Chinese medicine, and now seeing the clear outline of the man's face, his focused and serious expression, along with the warmth emanating from his fingertips, made her face flush slightly.

Lin Mian's pulse was carefully listened to by Shi Lin, whose eyes couldn't help but focus on her wrist. She felt a strange sense of comfort despite a slight pain from the pressure of his fingertips.

After a moment, Shi Lin slowly released her hand, furrowing his brow slightly. "Your pulse is a bit weak, probably due to irregular daily routines. I'll prescribe you some Chinese herbs to regulate it, and then you should rest properly."

Lin Mian let out a sigh of relief and exclaimed, "Thank you, Doctor Shi. I always thought you were only an expert in Western medicine, but I didn't expect you to also practice Chinese medicine."

Shi Lin gave a faint smile, not entirely accustomed to such praise. "Medical skills have no distinction between Eastern and Western. As long as I can help patients, that's what matters. Come pick up your prescription tomorrow and remember to take the medicine on time."

As she left Shi Lin's office, Lin Mian's heart was filled with an inexplicable excitement, her curiosity and respect for this mysterious doctor growing even stronger.
