As Antonio led Diana back toward the restaurant, Alejandro stood rooted to the spot, his fists clenched at his sides. He hated the sight of Antonio's hand on her back, guiding her away, as if he had some claim over her.
But what stung most was the way Diana had to act so distant. He knew it was necessary, but that didn't make it any easier to watch.
Back at the table, Antonio picked up their conversation as if nothing had happened. He was charming and engaging, making jokes that would have earned polite laughter from everyone except Diana, who sat quietly, pushing her food around her plate.
Her mind was miles away, back in that fleeting moment outside the restaurant. She could still feel Alejandro's steady presence, the warmth of his gaze, and the unspoken reassurance he always gave her.
Antonio noticed her distraction and leaned in. "You've been quiet tonight," he said softly.
She forced a smile, shaking her head. "Just tired, that's all."
