Adrian woke up to an unsettling stillness. The bed beside him was empty, and the warmth of Bianca's body was long gone. Blinking against the soft morning light, he sat up, rubbing his temples as he glanced around the room.
"Bianca?" he called, his voice groggy.
Silence.
Frowning, he climbed out of bed, pulling on his shirt from the floor as he headed toward the bathroom. He knocked gently on the door.
"Are you in there?"
No response.
Opening the door, he found the bathroom empty. Panic began to creep into his chest. He checked the kitchen, the living room, even the small laundry area...there was no sign of her.
Adrian's heart raced as he returned to the bedroom, scanning for any clue of where she might have gone. Where could she be this early? he thought.
Just then, the sound of a key turning in the front door lock made him freeze.
"Bianca?" he called, rushing to the entrance.
