Adrian had noticed Emily's odd behavior since they returned from the vacation. She was distant yet overly attentive, like someone trying too hard to cover their tracks. The late-night calls and mysterious messages weren't helping either.
One evening, as Emily excused herself to the balcony to take another "work call," Adrian decided to test his theory. He quietly followed and stood just out of sight, listening carefully.
"I told you I need more time," Emily hissed into the phone. "I can't just hand over that kind of money without him noticing. You have to..."
She stopped abruptly, sensing she might be too loud. Adrian frowned, his heart pounding. She sounded frantic, desperate even.
