The air in the hospital room was still, broken only by the occasional beep of monitors in the hallway. Bianca fidgeted with the hem of her hospital gown, her nerves coiling tighter with each passing second. Abby, ever the picture of calm, sat beside her, flipping mindlessly through a glossy magazine she'd picked up at the gift shop.
"You think he's running late?" Bianca asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Abby didn't look up. "He's a doctor, B. They're always running late. Besides," she added with a teasing smirk, "he's worth the wait, don't you think?"
Bianca's cheeks flushed at the implication. The first time Dr. Adrian Cross had walked in, she hadn't expected to notice much about him beyond his professional demeanor. Yet, his commanding presence, soothing voice, and piercing blue eyes had made a lasting impression. Now, the anticipation of seeing him again left her oddly restless.
