Chapter 137 - Chapter 137: The Man Following

A strange man followed behind Chaochao's mother. When he saw her get out of the car, he quickly got out as well.

The two of them, one in front and one behind, headed towards Wenxiang Street.

Mom Chaomao held the phone for navigation, following the directions step by step.

It also took more than forty minutes to find Dr. Wen's clinic.

Looking at the plaque hanging above the clinic, Chaochao's mother felt a sense of relief.

It was only at this moment that she realized there seemed to be someone behind her.

Turning around, looking at this stranger, it seemed like they had met on the bus?

"Are you here to see Dr. Wen too?"

The man shook his head, "I'm looking for you."

"What do you want from me?" Chaochao's mother asked indifferently. Although she was beautiful, her unkempt appearance at the moment could probably scare off many people.

She wasn't afraid of encountering any bad people. After all, she had lost the will to live. If she met a bad person, she might as well fight to the death. Who knows, she might even see her dear Zhaozhao again.

The man stared at her, not speaking for a moment.

Seeing the man remain silent, Chaochao's mother turned around and walked straight into Dr. Wen's clinic.

Wen Ying nestled on the sofa, holding a passion fruit lime tea in one hand and an iPad in the other, engrossed in a variety show.

I have to say, some variety shows are quite funny.

At this moment, sensing someone, she looked up at Chaochao's mother, "Chaochao's mother, you don't seem to be in good shape. Go have a meal and rest on the street for a while. Come find me again at eight in the evening."

"Then I'll come back later to see Dr. Wen," Chaochao's mother said without arguing after hearing Dr. Wen's words.

Morning Mom walked briskly, leaving the man following her speechless.

She listens so obediently to what others say?

Wen Ying didn't even glance at the man, her eyes fixed on the variety show as she continued watching.

The man followed behind Chaochao's mother and saw her find a noodle shop on the street. He followed her inside.

Morning's mom ordered a bowl of vegetable noodles, he ordered a portion of spare ribs noodles, and then told the owner to add a portion of spare ribs for Morning's mom as well.

Mama Chaochao heard it, but she didn't respond.

It's as if nothing matters at all.

After finishing a bowl of noodles, Chaochao's mother still hadn't spoken. They wandered around the street and found the only inn.

The small inn usually had no guests, but today, unexpectedly, two arrived.

But judging by the looks of it, the two didn't seem to be very familiar with each other, or perhaps they had a quarrel?

The boss then gave two keys.

After going upstairs, Chaochao's mother unlocked the door, went inside, and lay directly on the bed, closing her eyes.

The man's room was next to Chaochao's mother's room. When he opened the door and saw inside, he froze completely.

Is this really a hotel?

You could believe this was a prison cell, couldn't you?

Except for the door he was standing at, the room was surrounded by walls on all sides, without a single window.

In the small room, there was only a bed; apart from the bed, there was nothing else.

The man glanced down the hallway. Goodness, there was a shared bathroom and washroom combined.

So, does he have to live in a place like this?

Thinking of this, the man felt a bit of a tingling sensation on his scalp. From childhood to adulthood, he had never stayed in such a poor environment.

Looking at the room next door with its door already closed, the man could only grit his teeth and walk in.

After entering the room, he stood in front of the bed, staring at it for half an hour. Only when his legs and feet ached did he finally sit down, enduring the discomfort.

As soon as he sat down, the landlady brought up new bedding and replaced the old ones for him.

Seeing the clean bedding and even smelling the scent of soap, the man finally felt a bit more comfortable.

He lay in bed, unable to fall asleep no matter what.

Until his stomach growled again, the man finally got up and went out.

When he saw Chaochao's mom come out of the room and go downstairs while he was in the bathroom, he quickly followed her.

At 7:30 in the evening, when Chaochao's mom was on the first floor, the landlady called her to join for dinner, and naturally, the man also managed to get himself a meal.

After finishing the meal, he paid a hundred yuan for the bill.

Every morning, Mama Chao wanted to pay, but the landlady refused.

"Are you here to see Dr. Wen?"

"Boss, how did you know?"

"People from other places don't usually come here. Most of those who have come recently are looking for Dr. Wen; they are Dr. Wen's patients."

At 7:50, Chaochao's mother looked at the time and then left for Wen Ying's clinic.

Wen Ying had just finished eating the three dishes and one soup brought by Aunt Zhang.

"Dr. Wen," Chaochao's mother greeted cautiously after entering, not daring to speak rashly.

"Sit down."

Wen Ying looked at the man following behind Chaochao's mother, "Do you know each other?"

"Dr. Wen, I don't know him, but it seems like he's been following me."

Wen Ying heard this and looked at the man. He appeared to be around thirty-seven or thirty-eight years old, dressed in a suit, and looked quite decent. He seemed to belong to the category of people who were doing well, a successful person among ordinary folks.

The man looked at Wen Ying with an awkward expression. Even though Wen Ying appeared much younger than him, he did not underestimate her.

This was a habit he had developed in the workplace, never underestimating any young person.

"I don't know this lady, I just followed her, only"

"You don't know me, so why are you following me? If you're trying to deceive me, you've come to the wrong place. I don't have the patience to deal with you. Please leave immediately, or I'll call the police."

Morning's mom was afraid that this person's presence would upset Dr. Wen, so she made her stance clear.

"I suspect"

"Whatever you suspect has nothing to do with me. Please leave. I have important business with Dr. Wen."

The man looked somewhat disappointedly at Chaochao's mother, as if he wanted to say something but ultimately didn't. He turned to Wen Ying, "Are you a psychologist?"

Wen Ying smiled and nodded, "A psychologist who can read faces. Do you need me to take a look at you?"

"No need, thank you, but I'd like to take a look around the clinic, if that's okay?"

"Feel free to look around. If you find something you like, you can take it with you, as long as you pay for it."

Wen Ying didn't look at the man again, but Chaochao's mother couldn't understand why Dr. Wen kept this man around.

"Dr. Wen, what about our matter?"

"What do you want to ask?"

"Dr. Wen, you promised me that if I came here, you would help me see Chaochao," Chaochao's mother suddenly said, a bit anxious.

"Haven't you already met Zhaozhao?"

"I..."

Chaochao's mother suddenly stopped. She had seen him, but she still wanted to see her own Chaochao.

Even if separated by life and death.

"I gave you something, and you've already given it to Zhaozhao, right?"

Chaochao's mom immediately nodded, "Chaochao asked me to thank Dr. Wen on her behalf. She said she really likes it."

Chaochao's mother had too much to say and too many questions to ask Dr. Wen.

But when she saw the man in the clinic, she was afraid that speaking out would make people misunderstand Dr. Wen as a fraud.

After a moment, Chaochao's mom figured it out.

Since the doctor didn't care, why should she overthink it?

"Dr. Wen, I still want to see Zhao Zhao. I want to know what those things you gave her are for. You promised me that after she was buried, I could come to the clinic and you would let me see her."
