Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

The air in the motel room was thick with tension as Miel stood her ground, blocking Simon's path to Nina. The flickering light from the sign outside cast an eerie glow, accentuating the bruises on Nina's face and the determination etched in Miel's features. Jasmine stayed close, her eyes narrowed in defiance as she moved to flank Miel.

Simon laughed, but there was no mirth in it. "You think this is going to end well for you? You're out of your depth, girls."

Nina pushed herself up against the wall, drawing on every ounce of strength. "You underestimate us, Simon. We've survived worse than you."

Miel felt her heart pounding in her chest, the adrenaline heightening her senses. "We're done being your pawns. Whatever game you think you're playing, it's over."

Simon glanced at Nina, a flicker of something—regret, perhaps?—crossing his features before he hardened his gaze again. "You really don't get it. I was never your enemy. But if you want to make this personal, I can easily turn this into a nightmare for all of you."

"You're the nightmare," Jasmine shot back, stepping forward, her fists clenched. "You've used everyone around you for your own gain."

Miel could see Simon's façade starting to crack. He shifted his weight, eyeing them as if calculating his next move. "You think you can take me down? You're all alone in this."

"Alone?" Miel echoed, glancing back at Jasmine and Nina. "We're not alone. We have each other, and we know the truth now."

Simon's expression darkened. "You have no idea who you're dealing with. I'm not just a petty criminal; I'm connected to something much larger. You want to play tough? Fine. But you will regret it."

In a sudden burst of movement, Simon lunged toward the door, but Miel was quicker. She grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back and forcing him against the wall. The shock in his eyes was palpable, and for a brief moment, Miel reveled in the power of the situation.

"Let's see how tough you really are," she hissed, keeping him pinned.

"Get off me!" Simon growled, trying to wrench free, but Miel held firm. Jasmine stepped up, ready to help if needed, while Nina caught her breath, still trying to gather her strength.

"You think you can control everything," Miel said, her voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through her. "But we're taking control back."

Just then, a loud crash echoed from outside, the sound of shattering glass followed by frantic voices. Miel's heart dropped. "What was that?"

Simon's eyes widened, a hint of panic breaking through his bravado. "No… They shouldn't be here!"

"What are you talking about?" Jasmine snapped, her grip tightening.

"They were supposed to keep an eye on you," he said, trying to twist away from Miel's hold. "I didn't want you involved in this!"

Nina's eyes flared with realization. "You brought someone else into this?"

Before Simon could respond, the door burst open, and a group of men in dark clothing flooded the room, their eyes scanning for targets. Miel immediately released Simon, shifting into a defensive stance beside Jasmine and Nina.

"Get down!" Miel shouted as the men advanced, weapons drawn.

Chaos erupted as the intruders flooded the small space. Miel pushed Nina to the floor, shielding her with her body. Jasmine grabbed a broken chair leg from the corner, brandishing it like a weapon.

"Get out! This is our fight!" Jasmine yelled, determination blazing in her eyes.

One of the men lunged for Miel, but she ducked, swinging the chair leg and connecting with his knee. He crumpled to the floor, howling in pain. Miel's heart raced as she turned to see Simon scrambling toward the window, clearly trying to escape.

"Stop him!" Nina gasped, her voice hoarse. Miel rushed after Simon, but Jasmine was right behind her, ready to tackle him if necessary.

Outside, the sound of sirens wailed in the distance, a glimmer of hope cutting through the chaos. Miel's instincts kicked in; they needed to take Simon down before he could disappear again.

As they burst through the door, Simon was already halfway to the SUV. Miel and Jasmine charged after him, their breaths coming in heavy gasps as they pushed through the rain-slicked parking lot.

"Stop!" Miel yelled, her voice raw with desperation.

Simon turned, eyes wild. "You don't understand what you're doing! They won't stop until they have you back!"

Before Miel could respond, the sound of approaching sirens grew louder. Panic flashed across Simon's face. He reached for the SUV's door, but Jasmine was faster. She shoved him aside, grabbing the door handle and yanking it open.

"Not so fast!" she shouted.

Simon stumbled backward, clearly caught off guard. Miel seized the moment, lunging forward and tackling him to the ground. The impact sent them both sprawling in the mud, and for a brief moment, the world slowed down.

"You're not getting away this time," Miel growled, pinning him down.

"Get off me!" Simon shouted, struggling against her grip. But Miel held firm, fueled by a mix of adrenaline and determination.

The sound of sirens reached a crescendo, and the distant flash of lights illuminated the darkened parking lot. Miel glanced over her shoulder, heart racing. They were close—help was coming.

"Why did you set us up?" Jasmine shouted as she joined Miel on top of Simon, her hands gripping his arms to keep him pinned.

"I didn't!" Simon protested, panic in his voice. "I was trying to protect you. This is bigger than you think! They're coming for all of us!"

Suddenly, the sound of heavy boots approached, and several uniformed officers burst onto the scene, weapons drawn.

"Hands up! Everyone! Now!" one officer commanded, and Miel quickly released Simon, raising her hands in compliance.

Simon scrambled to his feet, glancing between the officers and the women, desperation evident on his face. "You don't understand! They'll kill us all if you don't let me go!"

Miel exchanged a look with Jasmine, and in that moment, they both understood the risk. Simon was a loose cannon, and they couldn't trust him.

"Arrest him!" Miel shouted, pointing at Simon as the officers moved in.

"Wait!" Simon cried, but it was too late. The officers grabbed him, cuffing his wrists as he struggled.

As they pulled him away, Miel felt a mix of relief and dread wash over her. They had done it. They had finally taken a stand against Simon, but the threat he spoke of still loomed.

Nina stumbled out of the motel, her face pale but determined. "What's going on? Are you okay?"

Miel rushed to her side, pulling her close. "We're okay. But we need to figure out what Simon meant about 'they.'"

Just then, the roar of sirens filled the air, cutting through the tension. Miel felt the rush of adrenaline coursing through her veins as she and Jasmine slipped into the back of the SUV, the engine roaring to life just as the first flash of blue lights illuminated the parking lot.

"Drive!" Miel shouted, glancing over her shoulder as the police pulled into the lot, their sirens blaring.

Jasmine's hands gripped the steering wheel, her knuckles white. "What do we do? They're going to recognize us!"

Miel took a deep breath, thinking fast. "Just keep moving. We have to blend in with the chaos."

As Jasmine navigated the dark road, Miel's mind raced. They had barely escaped the motel when they heard the sirens, and the last thing they needed was to be caught now, not after everything.

"Do you think they'll catch up?" Jasmine asked, her voice trembling as she focused on the road ahead.

Miel shook her head. "Not if we stay off the main roads and keep changing our appearance. We'll find a place to lay low until this blows over."

Nina was seated in the back, her face pale and bruised but determined. "I can't believe we made it out of there," she said, her voice hoarse. "But we have to move fast."

They drove in tense silence, the rain finally tapering off as they made their way to a secluded area on the outskirts of town. Miel glanced at Jasmine, who looked both terrified and resolute.

"Do you think Simon will be able to get out of this?" Jasmine asked, her eyes flickering to the rearview mirror, as if expecting the police to appear behind them.

Miel bit her lip, considering. "With the way things went down, I doubt he'll be out anytime soon. But we can't let our guard down. He'll come for us again. He's too connected to just disappear."

Nina nodded, her expression hardening. "We need to figure out what his next move is. He's not going to let this go without a fight."

As they drove deeper into the night, Miel felt the weight of uncertainty hang over them, but for the first time in a while, there was a glimmer of hope. They had escaped Simon's grasp, at least for now, and they wouldn't let him tear them apart.
