Chapter 34 - Truth Or Dare (1)

It took me a few minutes to register what she just said, and the only answer I had for that type of question was, "No," I replied absentmindedly.

Heather went pale; she kept muttering, "It's fine," and tried to get up, but her legs gave out. Even though I wanted to clarify that's not what I meant, I still found Heather's reaction equally amusing and sad.

I think I've told her before that I don't do dates, so she should've come with low expectations. I sighed and grabbed her arm, which got her attention.

"What brought this on? Didn't I tell you I don't do dating?" I asked her in an even tone.

Her face was flushed, tears were threatening to spill out, and she looked at my hand grabbing hers. "Can I leave now?" she asked in a voice that was barely a whisper.

Am I the terrible person here? Sure am. She just asked the question I was going to do myself, and I rejected her invitation. But I truly wanted to know what changed her mind; it felt sudden to me.
