Chapter 315: Obito Seeks the Truth Behind the Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion
Night in Konoha, atop the Hokage Rock.
A figure wearing a yellow tiger-patterned mask and draped in a black cloak with red clouds stood at the edge of the cliff, gazing at the full moon.
Tonight's moon was unlike any other. A faint line cut across its surface, stretching from one end to the other.
"It seems something significant happened on the moon…"
The masked man murmured to himself, recalling the mysterious destruction he had witnessed earlier in the Kamui dimension, his thoughts swirling.
This masked figure was none other than Obito.
Earlier, Obito had been in the Mist Village, quelling a rebellion. He often left his physical body in the Kamui dimension during battles, activating his intangibility technique.
But suddenly, a violent storm had erupted within the Kamui dimension. Obito had witnessed a massive, terrifying tornado—far beyond anything a mere ninja technique could produce, more intense than even the fiercest typhoon at sea.
Had it not been for his Senju body, which granted him resilience and clarity, he might not have survived the event.
For an ordinary person, standing in the midst of that tornado would have meant instant annihilation, their body torn to shreds in mere moments.
As Obito stared at the faint scar on the moon, he couldn't shake the feeling that the storm he experienced was connected to the moon—and, quite possibly, to Kakashi.
After all, only he and Kakashi could enter the Kamui dimension.
This was why Obito had come to Konoha tonight. He needed to investigate whether Kakashi had awakened a new level of power in his Mangekyo Sharingan—and whether it was related to the storm.
A swirling vortex appeared around Obito's eye, and he vanished from the Hokage Rock.
When he reappeared, he was crouched in a patch of grass near the Memorial Stone.
From his hidden position, Obito observed Haneda's wood clone speaking with Kakashi nearby.
What piqued Obito's curiosity, however, was the presence of a child holding Haneda's hand.
The child had pure, snow-white eyes—clearly the Byakugan. But unlike the Hyuga clan, the child's hair was a soft bluish-white, and their forehead bore no mark of the Caged Bird Seal. The child looked to be around five years old.
Given the child's age, they couldn't possibly belong to the Hyuga branch family. Yet their distinct appearance and traditional clothing resembled the styles from the era of the Sage of Six Paths.
Obito hid in the shadows, eavesdropping.
He heard Haneda and Kakashi address the child as "Tonari" and mention the surname "Otsutsuki." This revelation left Obito stunned.
The name Otsutsuki—the surname of the Sage of Six Paths himself—was undeniably linked to this child!
As he listened to their conversation, Obito uncovered an incredible secret.
A battle had taken place on the moon, and Tonari was someone Haneda and Kakashi had brought back from there!
"Damn you, Kakashi!" Obito gritted his teeth, glaring at his former teammate.
Finally, he understood where the devastating storm in the Kamui dimension had come from.
It was Kakashi—this guy had used Kamui to absorb an attack that even Obito couldn't withstand!
Did Kakashi have no idea that Obito often stayed in the Kamui dimension?
Feeling both frustrated and amused, Obito adjusted his mask.
When he thought about the scale of destruction that had left a scar on the moon, he conceded that Kakashi had likely been in an extremely dangerous situation. His actions were understandable.
At the very least, Kakashi had used Kamui to support Haneda in battle.
For now, Obito decided to forgive Kakashi.
Once Haneda, Kakashi, and Tonari left, Obito emerged from the grass.
He glanced at the two bouquets of flowers in front of Rin's memorial and grabbed the one Kakashi had placed, tossing it aside without hesitation.
Satisfied with his petty act of revenge, Obito disappeared once more into a swirling vortex.
This time, he reappeared on a street in the Uchiha district, near Haneda's home.
Naruto and Sasuke, fresh from a late-night training session, were walking home together, chatting and laughing.
Obito stepped out to block their path and cast a genjutsu on Naruto.
"Where did Haneda go today? Did he go to the moon with Kakashi?"
Inside Naruto's mind, Kurama sensed the familiar chakra and refrained from breaking the genjutsu.
The Nine-Tails recognized this man—the one who had summoned him on the night of the Nine-Tails attack five years ago. The man known as Uchiha Madara.
Kurama reasoned that if he interfered, it might reveal Naruto's status as a perfect jinchuriki, potentially putting the boy in greater danger.
Under the genjutsu's influence, Naruto's eyes became vacant as he muttered:
"How should I know? Haneda-uncle promised to train us tonight, but he didn't even show up or give a reason. Hmph, so annoying!"
Obito's voice turned cold. "Haneda Uchiha is a kind man. You should respect him more."
Obito planted a subliminal suggestion in Naruto's mind, urging him to give Haneda less trouble in the future.
Then, probing further, he asked:
"What has Sasuke been saying about Haneda lately?"
"Uh… let me think… Sasuke just complains about him not showing up, like me. That's about it."
"Oh, wait! Sasuke mentioned that his brother Itachi and Shisui went on some mission with Haneda-uncle.
"And Haneda-uncle was at the Hyuga clan yesterday, looking for something. He even met with Hinata and Neji, along with their dads."
Obito asked a few more questions about Haneda and Kakashi but quickly realized Naruto knew little about them. Most of what Naruto knew had come from Sasuke.
Having gathered enough information, Obito left Konoha.
He had pieced together a rough idea of Haneda and Kakashi's recent activities.
The two, along with Itachi and Shisui, had traveled to the moon on a mission that involved the Hyuga clan.
As for Tonari, he wasn't from the Hyuga's main family. He likely bore the Otsutsuki name and came from the moon.
The specifics, however, remained known only to the participants.
Given the strength and significance of Haneda's team, Obito decided not to meddle unnecessarily. He buried the information deep in his mind, choosing not to consult Black Zetsu either.
For Obito, it was enough to confirm that Kakashi had not uncovered his presence.
As for the incident in the Kamui dimension… that was just an unfortunate accident.
...
After Obito's departure, Kurama spoke to Naruto:
"The man who caused your parents' deaths was just here—that masked guy."
Naruto, unable to recall the encounter due to the genjutsu, blinked in confusion.
"Huh? The guy who killed my parents? Was someone here just now?"
Looking around nervously, Naruto began backing toward his house.
By the time he reached his front door, he hurriedly opened it, stepped inside, and locked it behind him—all in one swift motion.
"Indeed. That man's actions led to your parents' deaths," Kurama affirmed, projecting the image of the masked man into Naruto's mind.
Kurama suspected the man had a connection to Haneda but chose not to share this suspicion just yet.
After arguing with Kurama for a while, Naruto decided to wait for Haneda to return before seeking answers.
