Chapter 37
**The Strongest Hokage?**
Haneda scoffed; given the Third Hokage's strength, it would be questionable for him to even rank in the top five. With Hashirama and Tobirama ahead of him, it was hard to understand how this old man could boast about himself. If Ohnoki heard this, he would surely suffer a social death.
Just then, an unexpected event occurred.
At the center of the campfire, a Chunin from the Nara clan used the Shadow Binding Technique to restrain the Third Hokage. At the same time, a swarm of black insects and several shuriken with explosive tags were thrown at the Third Hokage.
In that moment, among the six clan ninjas, three had defected: one from the Inuzuka clan, one from the Yamanaka clan, and one from the Shimura clan!!
"Protect Lord Hokage!!!" Someone in the crowd shouted.
Before the Anbu could react and move closer to the Third Hokage, another group of masked ninjas surrounded them, numbering over thirty!
This was five times the number of Anbu ninjas, and there were traitors among them.
A wave of despair swept through everyone, but as ninjas, they were prepared for sacrifice.
"Which country's ninjas are you? Are you trying to incite a war between nations by assassinating Lord Hokage?!!" a captain from the Anbu shouted sternly.
But there was no response until the smoke from the explosive tags gradually dispersed at the center of the tent.
"It seems he has really made a move."
"I never expected you would betray me too, ha ha…"
The Third Hokage's figure reappeared, and he sighed as he looked at the three former loyal clan ninjas.
"It's all for the village, for Konoha!"
"Lord Third, please die for us!!" The ninja from the Shimura clan gritted his teeth and said resolutely.
"Hold them off; support will arrive soon," the Third Hokage said as he tore open a scroll, and a firework quickly shot up into the sky, blooming brightly.
At this moment, the Anbu ninjas realized something, and their despair deepened.
In the end, it turned out to be ninjas from the same village who had betrayed Konoha…
The captain of the Anbu shouted to his subordinates, "You immediately go protect Lord Hokage!"
"Captain, you…"
"Follow orders!!"
The captain responded coldly. He quickly formed hand seals, spitting out several fireballs that blocked a few root ninjas.
"Go! The Anbu don't need unnecessary emotions; it's all about the mission. Chizuru, don't you understand?!!" the captain shouted at the hesitant young Anbu.
In that moment, a trace of reluctance slipped down his cheek.
On the other side, at the center of the whirlpool.
The campfire blazed fiercely, the flames on the firewood flickering precariously in the tearing wind.
Around them, the shadows of the night danced continuously, and anxiety grew rapidly in the hearts of the three clan ninjas blocking in front of the Hokage.
"Damn it! Lord Hokage, give the order, and we'll cover your escape!"
One of the ninjas said.
"Support will arrive soon; it's a team led by Jiraiya, and it won't take more than a minute."
The Third Hokage shook his head, taking out a kunai and adopting a fighting stance.
At this moment, the root ninjas also surrounded from behind, looking coldly at the Third Hokage.
One of the captains said:
"Lord Third, you might as well surrender."
"That person wants your whole body."
As soon as he finished speaking, the ninja in front of the Third Hokage couldn't hold back anymore.
"Shut up! Damn traitor!!"
"Once that person becomes the Fourth Hokage, we will still serve Konoha, so surrender."
The root captain's emotionless voice came again.
"Even if I die, I will never betray Lord Hokage!!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a figure charged forward.
Clang, clang, clang!!!
The kunai clashed repeatedly, sending sparks flying.
The other two ninjas also joined the battle, forming a triangular formation in front of the Third Hokage.
"Attack! Since you've chosen to betray Konoha, then kill!" the root captain said coldly.
Several figures moved swiftly with his words.
In an instant, a figure was kicked down from mid-air, crashing into a large tree.
His forehead protector fell from the air.
At that moment, the battlefield collapsed; the Anbu ninjas had no choice but to reveal their trump cards to break free from the root's entanglement and rush to support the Third Hokage.
And the price was injury, even death.
"Yosh, looks like it's time for my proud Konoha Blue Beast to make an appearance."
A discordant voice rang out from the battlefield that the root had ignored.
Might Dai, a Leaf genin, stepped forward!
Hidden in the trees, Kakashi saw this and couldn't help but wipe the sweat from his forehead.
He couldn't believe it; he almost fell from the tree upon hearing that.
Uncle Dai was just a Genin, wasn't participating in a battlefield where even Jonin would surely die—was he looking for death?
That's what Kakashi thought, as did the Anbu around the Third Hokage and the remaining clan ninjas.
An Anbu captain sternly reprimanded:
"You, Might Dai, hurry and take the two kids and escape while they haven't moved against you!"
"Run! Don't cause trouble!!"
The Anbu captain knew very well what identities these two kids held.
One represented the strongest clan in Konoha, the Uchiha, Haneda; the other was the son of the man known as Konoha's White Fang, Kakashi.
If either of them were captured, it would be a huge headache for Lord Hokage.
That Might Dai was causing trouble at this moment!
The Anbu captain secretly prayed, hoping this Genin had a bit of awareness of the big picture.
But at that moment, Dai's aura suddenly became powerful and volatile.
Light blue steam continuously rose from his body.
"Haneda, remember, this technique is meant to protect what's most important to you!"
"It must never be used against comrades!"
Dai turned to Haneda and said.
He hesitated no longer, crossed his hands, and forcefully spread his arms wide.
"The Eighth Gate of the Eight Gates Release, the Seventh Gate, the Gate of Shock, OPEN!!!"
Dai's aura surged again, the ground beneath him was instantly torn apart by the thick blue steam.
At the same time, a powerful wind howled from his direction.
The leaves in the entire area rustled violently from the strong wind.
Accompanied by the howling wind, Dai moved.
A massive white tiger formed in mid-air, opening its enormous mouth toward the several root ninjas.
The terrifying aura and furious energy made everyone freeze momentarily.
"Wait! We belong to the root; we're also ninjas of Konoha, we're comrades too!!"
"Day Tiger!! Haha!!!"
In an instant, the sound disappeared, and the surroundings fell into an eerie silence.
At that moment, seven bodies lay on the ground, torn apart by the air.
At their center stood a man surrounded by blue steam, standing proudly.
"What did they just say? Forget it, I didn't hear it…"
Dai glanced at the root ninjas in front of him, who were sweating profusely from fear, and then looked back at Haneda and Kakashi following behind him.
"You two go protect Lord Hokage, Haneda, Kakashi."
"As for Uncle Dai, I'll go have a chat with these despicable guys."
Haneda looked into Dai's eyes and hesitated for a moment.
He just wanted to stick closely to Dai's side, holding on tightly to his leg.
Even if it meant being a mere accessory, he would gladly do so!
As for the old man, the Third Hokage?
A shadow-level powerhouse needs two kids to protect him??!
"Go, Haneda. Uncle Dai still needs to focus on fighting the enemy," Kakashi gently reminded.
"Okay." Haneda nodded helplessly in agreement. Staying beside the Third Hokage provided some security.
After all, the Third Hokage wouldn't allow him and Kakashi to be captured by the root or die here.
Kakashi, once again feeling Dai's volatile and terrifying aura, couldn't help but say:
"Haneda, you have a great eye for people."
"Uncle Dai is really strong, way too strong."
Ninjas nearby heard this and silently nodded.
Especially those Anbu who had previously looked down on and doubted Dai, were now repeatedly nodding in agreement.
All their earlier skepticism transformed into true admiration.
On the other side of the battlefield.
The root captain was astonished by Guy's strength and loudly asked:
"Who is that? How can he be so fierce?"
"Might Dai, a, a Genin…"
The informant who answered had doubts even as he spoke.
This aura, this strength—wasn't this a Genin???
"Are you sure? Not the captain of the Anbu?" The root captain said coldly.
"I can confirm! He's been mocked as the eternal Genin in the village, always executing D-rank missions…"
"D-rank missions???"
The root captain grew increasingly puzzled. Which idiot gathered this information?
'A Genin who constantly executes D-rank missions?
Hmm???
Isn't this just pure joke!!'
If it weren't for the battlefield situation, the root captain would have want to strangle them.
