Chapter 18

"It seems you have a talent for genjutsu, Haneda," Fugaku said, approaching and placing his right hand on Haneda's shoulder.

"It's probably thanks to the Sharingan," Haneda replied, his expression unchanged.

"Is that really the case?" Fugaku smiled, revealing his three-tomoe Sharingan.

"In a genjutsu battle between Uchiha, what's tested is ocular power. A one-tomoe against a three-tomoe—it's almost laughable, even a two-tomoe stands no chance. But you managed it, Haneda."

Haneda thought carefully about how he had broken the genjutsu. He had sensed it the moment Fugaku cast it but hadn't been able to stop it.

There were only two ways Haneda knew to break the genjutsu: self-harm, using physical pain to wake himself up, or the more standard method of disrupting his own chakra flow.

Not wanting to hurt himself just for training, Haneda had immediately sought out his own chakra. In the presence of powerful genjutsu, chakra can be hidden or even manipulated, making everything you see just what the caster wants you to see.

The trick was finding his hidden chakra. Surprisingly, Haneda had found it easily, almost without effort.

That's when he realized the key to the situation—his mental strength was abnormal. As someone who had lived two lives, his spiritual energy was far stronger than that of an ordinary ninjas, and his Sharingan only enhanced this ability.

"It seems I'm quite talented with genjutsu, brother Fugaku," Haneda said with a light laugh.

"I have a task for you, Haneda." Fugaku extended his hand from his robe. "Look into my Sharingan. This is how you perform the Fox Mind Jutsu…"

Once again, Haneda's world changed, but this time the change was slow, as if time itself had slowed down. During this, he could clearly sense the changes in his own chakra.

The source of the change was Fugaku's chakra. It spread from Fugaku's eyes, invading Haneda's brain and then his entire body. This process was the key to casting the Fox Mind Jutsu.

At that moment, Fugaku's voice echoed in Haneda's ears.

"When an Uchiha with the Sharingan uses genjutsu, no hand signs are needed. The enemy only needs to see your eyes. Even a moment of eye contact is enough to trap them in an illusion."

"And your task is…" Fugaku's figure gradually dissolved into a flock of black crows. "Bring your friend, Kakashi, back from the world of illusions."

With the sound of crows cawing, Haneda found himself in a forest, where Kakashi stood before him.

"How did you get in here, Haneda?" Kakashi asked, surprised as he looked up at Haneda.

"Fugaku senpai sent me to rescue you," Haneda responded playfully as he slowly approached, stopping two meters from Kakashi.

Kakashi remained cautious, not entirely convinced it was really Haneda.

"You've already noticed the genjutsu, haven't you, Kakashi?" Haneda asked softly, his expression turning serious.

Before Kakashi could respond, Haneda continued, "Look into my eyes, Kakashi."

As he spoke, Haneda revealed his one-tomoe Sharingan and locked eyes with Kakashi. In an instant, Kakashi's pupils reflected the three rotating tomoe of his Sharingan.

Haneda immediately winced in pain, covering his eyes.

"It's not that simple, Haneda. You're also caught in the genjutsu. You'll need to break free yourself before you can disrupt my chakra," Kakashi analyzed calmly.

"So what do we do? I've only just started learning the Fox Mind Jutsu. As you can see, trying to break the genjutsu directly hasn't worked," Haneda replied, his voice hoarse.

His eyes still throbbed in pain, just as Fugaku had said—pitting a one-tomoe against a three-tomoe was indeed laughable.

"Can you still control your chakra?" Kakashi asked.

"Yes."

Upon hearing Haneda's answer, Kakashi slowly approached and extended his left fist.

"You mean… but this is still the illusion world, Kakashi," Haneda said, confused, thinking Kakashi wanted him to disrupt his chakra.

"The Fox Mind Jutsu just disorients people. What you're seeing is still my real body."

"Chakra… I get it," Haneda replied, extending his right fist to meet Kakashi's.

In that moment, two chakras surged through Kakashi's body—one faint and ordinary, the other dark and ominous.

"Now, Haneda!"

"I know." Haneda opened his one-tomoe Sharingan and met Kakashi's gaze.

In that instant, Haneda's understanding of the Fox Mind Jutsu flowed into Kakashi's mind. The three chakras collided, disrupting the chakra flow within both Haneda and Kakashi.

"Genjutsu—Release!" they both exclaimed in unison.

The illusion shattered, and the two found themselves back by the lake. Unlike in the illusion, they were standing close but without any physical contact.

"It seems you've both grasped the fundamentals of genjutsu—not just the shallow explanation in textbooks," Fugaku said, clearly impressed.

He had thought the two would struggle longer before realizing the key to breaking the genjutsu.

But Kakashi had quickly deduced that his body in the illusion was still his real body, and Haneda had realized he could use his chakra to connect with Kakashi's and transmit the principle of the Fox Mind Jutsu. Kakashi had then disrupted his own genjutsu and Haneda's in turn.

"Not only is Kakashi a genius in ninjutsu, but he's also a tactical genius," Fugaku thought to himself. "And Haneda is proving to be a capable ninja, knowing exactly what to do in the moment."

"Brother Fugaku, it seems Kakashi and I have both grasped the basics of genjutsu now," Haneda said with a smile.

"Yes, but mastering it will take much more practice," Fugaku replied, his expression neutral. Though impressed, he didn't want the two to get overconfident, so he didn't offer too much praise.

"Haneda, you have a talent for genjutsu. If you need guidance on using the Sharingan for genjutsu, feel free to ask me over the next few days," Fugaku offered.

"Thank you, brother Fugaku," Haneda responded.

With that, Fugaku nodded slightly and turned to Kakashi. To be honest, he had become intrigued by this young genius from outside the Uchiha clan.

Kakashi's potential was terrifying, and it seemed inevitable that he would become a powerful figure in the future. Fugaku felt a sense of pride at the thought of being his teacher.
