Chapter 68 - The Quest Begins

The day started with morning sun breaking over the horizon and coloring the sky in hues of pink and orange. Laughing filled the surrounding air around Sarah as she woke up to it, combined with the sweet perfume of wildflowers. She stretched and yawned, feeling a strange sense of excitement within her.

The children were already sitting by the fire, breaking their fast with breakfast—a delicious combination of fruits and pastries they had prepared. Elara beckoned her closer, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "Good morning, Sarah! We were just discussing our plan for today!"

"Plan?" Sarah asked, sitting beside them, intrigued.

"Today, we go to the Glimmering Falls," one of the lads shouted, his cheeks full of berries. "It is said that the waters have magical properties. Some believe they can reveal your true purpose!"

Sarah got excited. "That sounds great. I wanna go!

"Excellent!" exclaimed Elara clapping her hands together. "However, we should be careful. The path along the way to the falls is tricky, and we'll have to work collaboratively as well.

After breakfast, the children packed their bags and left with their excitement. But in Sarah's case, this was a renewal of purpose. She was not doing only something in this fantasy world in which she had always dreamed but was also made to fulfill her own destiny.

As they moved inside, they tread on a curvy winding trail covered with a lush green carpet of leaves. Birds sang above them and their bright colors flitted through the trees; the air was filled with the hum of life. The further into the forest they went, the more everything seemed full of life and vigor.

As Sarah told them her stories of Willowbrook and what went in within her life, her dreams, and her different thoughts. The children listened intently as she spun her tales of advanced technology and the everyday problems of her day. As a trade, they shared with her the various clans of Eldoria-the Elves of the Silverwood, the Dwarves of the Iron Mountains, and the Fae of the Whispering Glade. Each clan had some unique skill or secret that contributed to the balance of their world.

As they walked, they came across a great stone archway thick with vines and flowers. "This is the Gateway of Whispers," Elara said reverently. "It is said that anyone who passes through can hear the whispers of their destiny.".

Wonder went one step further, arch towering over her head. She could hear dulled murmurs in the air, almost like voices calling her to come closer. She stretched out her hand toward it; her fingers brushed cool stone.

"Come through?" one of the boys asked, his eyes wide with curiosity.

Sarah nodded, taking a deep breath for she knew that she needed to.

As she stepped through the archway, a whirl of energy swirled her about. The whispers were louder and crested in waves as if it was a caressing breeze against her ears. She closed her eyes, feeling the sound pouring over her. Images flashed before her eyes: battle scenes, moments of friendship, and proud moments. And then, amidst all this, saw herself standing before a tree large in size, spreading its branches to touch the sky, and welmed in light.

But then, all of a sudden, the whispers went silent and Sarah's eyes popped open. A sense of panic clutched at her heart, and she took a step backward to rejoin the rest of the gang.

"You felt it, right?!" Elara exclaimed as if excited. "The archway has glimpses of your true self. You're destined for something incredibly awesome!"

Sarah felt happy-sad. What was the point of all this? She glanced back in the direction she had come, wondering if ever she would know what all the visions she was seeing meant.

"Come on! We have to keep moving," another boy shouted out, shattering the spell of silence. "The falls are just up ahead!"

The group's spirits were high. Through curves and twists of the path, they led it through great, wild vibrant flowers to towering trees. Before long, the cacophony of rushing water echoed in the air, growing louder with each step.

And finally, into a glorious view: the Glimmering Falls cascaded down from cliffs of dark rock; the drops glimmered with diamond sparks in sunlight. Its course seemed tranquil, plunging into a pool like crystal, where Sarah felt as if they had stepped into a dream.

"Woohoo," she breathed, her eyes wide with wonder.

They rushed forward, feet itching to get wet in the coolness of the waters. Elara grabbed Sarah's hand, and between them, laughter bubbled. They splashed in the water, the moment bathing out the remaining fears.

Elara settled at the edge of the pool with a stern countenance. "This is where you can find your true purpose, Sarah, drink from the waters, and let them reveal your destiny," she said.

Sarah cupped her hands to swallow some of the glittering water, part fear and part excitement, and drank a deep breathful down; the cool rushing down her throat. Almost instantly, her mind was filled with visions: the great tree from before, vibrant colors, children's laughter.

But darkness crept in—a figure shrouded in shadows, a voice whispering dangers, urgency dripping from its very words: "Find the Heartstone… Only then can you protect Eldoria."

As visions faded, Sarah gasped, her heart racing. She looked at Elara and the others, confusion etched on her face. "I… I saw something. A figure, a warning."

"What did it say?" Elara asked, her eyes wide with concern.

"It said find this thing called the Heartstone," Sarah replied, her voice quivering. "That I could protect Eldoria."

The children looked at each other worried. "The Heartstone is a legend," Elara explained. "It's said to be hidden deep within the mountains, guarded by a fierce creature. Many have sought it, but few have returned."

"Then we have to go!" Sarah exclaimed, her determination rising.

But it's dangerous," one of the boys said, hesitantly. "We don't know what we'll find."

"I can't ignore this," Sarah said, her heart pounding. "I need to find it—not just for me, but for all of you. Eldoria needs protection, and I feel like this is my chance to make a difference.".

As the children gathered around Sarah, hope grew within them. Fear slowly coalesced with determination and formed into drive, building within them. "We'll do this together," Elara declared firmly. "We'll find the Heartstone, and together we'll protect Eldoria.".

With new spirits, they now marched toward the mountains, eager to face the adventures that awaited them. Sarah felt the oneness that would be between her and her new friends - she felt it had been brought forth through shared dreams and adventures. They were no longer strangers in a forei

gn land but a team, uncovering together the secrets of Eldoria.
