Chapter 7 - Shadows

The days turned into weeks, and Koy had become somewhat of a local legend among the goblins. Under his leadership, they began to take control of their territory, gathering resources and increasing their numbers. But success breeds attention, and soon whispers of their achievements spread through the forest, drawing the attention of rival tribes.

One evening, as Koy sat around a fire with Miri and Garok, the atmosphere shifted. The usual laughter and camaraderie faded, replaced by a sense of unease.

"Have you heard about the Red Fang tribe?" Garok asked, his voice low.

Koy leaned in closer, intrigued. "No, what about them?"

"They're ruthless," Garok replied. "They raid weaker tribes and take everything. Rumor has it they're looking for us next."

Koy felt a chill run down his spine. "Why would they come after us? We've done nothing to them."

"Because we're getting stronger," Miri interjected, her expression serious. "They won't tolerate competition. We need to prepare."

Koy nodded, the weight of leadership heavy on his shoulders. "We'll set up defenses and keep watch at night. No more hunting parties alone. We need to stick together."

The following days were filled with tension. Koy trained the goblins harder than ever, fortifying their cave and setting traps around the perimeter. But the thought of the Red Fang tribe loomed over him like a dark cloud.

Then, one night, while on watch, Koy heard the unmistakable sounds of rustling in the bushes. His heart raced as he signaled to the others. "Get ready!"

Moments later, a small group of goblins from the Red Fang tribe burst through the trees, brandishing crude weapons and wearing sinister grins. Their leader, a tall, scarred goblin with blood-red markings on his face, stepped forward. "Well, well, what do we have here? A little band of misfits thinking they can challenge the Red Fangs?"

Koy clenched his fists, adrenaline surging through him. "We won't back down. You have no business here."

The scarred goblin laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the clearing. "Oh, but I do. I'm here to take what's mine. Hand over your food, and maybe I'll let you live."

"No!" Miri shouted, stepping forward. "We've worked too hard for this!"

"Hard work?" the leader sneered. "You think you can defend it? You're just level one goblins. You don't stand a chance!"

Before Koy could react, the Red Fang goblins charged forward, weapons raised.

"Defend the camp!" Koy yelled, grabbing his dagger. He knew they were outnumbered, but he couldn't let fear dictate his actions.

The fight erupted into chaos, with Koy and his goblins scrambling to defend their home. He fought with everything he had, but the Red Fang goblins were relentless.

In the fray, Koy caught a glimpse of Miri, struggling against a larger opponent. "Miri!" he shouted, pushing through the chaos to reach her.

"Miri, get down!" Koy yelled as he lunged at her attacker, striking the goblin in the back. It stumbled forward, and Miri took the opportunity to kick it away, panting heavily.

"Thanks!" she gasped, adrenaline coursing through her.

"Stay close!" Koy urged, scanning the battle for Garok. The sound of clashing weapons and cries filled the air, but amidst the chaos, he realized they were losing ground.

Suddenly, the leader of the Red Fangs emerged from the shadows, his eyes locked onto Koy. "You've put up a good fight, but this is where it ends for you."

Koy felt his heart drop. "I won't let you take us!"

With a swift movement, the scarred goblin lunged, and Koy barely managed to sidestep. But the attack was a feint; the leader twisted and struck at Garok, who had just entered the fray, catching him off guard.

"No!" Koy screamed as Garok went down, clutching his side, blood seeping between his fingers.

Koy's vision blurred with rage as he faced the Red Fang leader. "You'll pay for this!"

With renewed determination, Koy charged forward, dagger raised. The world around him faded as he focused solely on the goblin before him. He had to protect his friends, to prove he was strong enough to lead them.
