Chapter 37 - Chapter 38 : The Trial Begins (2)

The square erupted into chaos. The Guilde's representatives shot to their feet, shouting in protest, while the crowd looked on in disbelief. The idea of Lumumba—Ubuntu—taking control of the most powerful economic force in the kingdom was unimaginable to many. But Lumumba stood, unflinching, a knowing smirk on his face as the judge called for order.

"Control of the guild?" one of the Guilde members spat, their face twisted in rage. "You can't be serious. This is ridiculous! We'll never let that happen."

Lumumba raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by their outrage. "Well, considering you've been running the show like it's your personal monopoly, I figured it was time for a change. Besides, someone has to clean up the mess you've left behind."

The judge leaned forward, regarding Lumumba carefully. "You realize what you're asking for, Lumumba? The control of the guild is no small matter. It influences much of the kingdom's economy."

Lumumba nodded, his voice steady. "Exactly. Which is why it's time someone else stepped in. Someone who actually gives a damn about the people who've been hurt."

The Guilde members continued to protest, but the crowd had shifted in Lumumba's favor. The people had seen the evidence, heard the testimonies, and felt the weight of the Guilde's corruption. And now, they were ready for change.

The judge, after a long pause, finally spoke. "Given the overwhelming evidence presented and the extent of the crimes committed, I will consider your request."

Lumumba grinned. "Oh, I'm sure you'll make the right decision, Your Honor. After all, it's not every day you get to help turn the kingdom's most corrupt organization into something... let's say, a little more ethical."

As the judge prepared to deliberate, Lumumba turned to face the crowd, his voice raised. "And to everyone who's suffered at the hands of the guild, don't worry. Change is coming. And I promise, it's going to be one hell of a ride."
