Chapter 4 - Chapter Four: Betrayed

"I can't get a pulse... He's not responding," Henry said. His voice was strained with worry as he desperately performed chest compressions on Bruce. He tried to make his heart pump blood again.. "He's still not waking up... Quickly, let's take him to Eva. She'd know what to do," Gloria said. There was a determined belief in her voice. She clung to the last glimmer of hope that resided in the enigmatic figure of Eva - the person who had shaped her into the witch she was today, a well-respected figure in the netherworld.

As they hurried to the front door of Eva's grim-looking house, they were met with a sight that sent shivers down their spines. Bruce had regained consciousness, but he wasn't himself. The effects of Caleb's bite were evident, and he was in a lot of pain.

His body twisted in pain and each nerve he felt was burning. His cries of anguish echoed through the room but got lost in the chaotic mix of pulsating music and flashing lights. His forehead was covered in sweat, and his breaths were heavy and erratic. He grabbed his chest, trying to ease the pain but it seemed to have a life of it's own and wouldn't let go.

His friends watched helplessly, their faces filled with concern and fear. They were not sure how to ease his suffering.

They stepped cautiously into the ominous-looking house and found themselves in a living area.

They noticed instantly the towering bookshelves filled with ancient books and grimoires. The subtle aroma of aged candles lingered in the air, adding a mysterious atmosphere to the scene. An unsettling silence filled the place. This made them wonder where Eva had disappeared to.

"Something's not right... I can sense the presence of a dangerous being in this house, as well as that of an innocent person... a girl... she's young," Henry whispered to Gloria, his senses on high alert, even as he continued to carry Bruce on his back. "Eva... it's Gloria... where are you, Eva... I need your help," Gloria called out. Her voice echoed through the unsettling silence as she hoped that Eva would hear her plea.

Gloria could see the pain in Bruce's eyes, and she could hear the agonizing strain in his voice. He seemed to be undergoing an strange transformation. It was as if some otherworldly force was taking hold of him. His muscles tightened and throbbed, and an otherworldly heat engulfed his entire body, causing steam to rise from his skin. The strange energy in the room appeared to change his very being, making him confused and worried about the transformations happening to him.

Despite his struggles, Bruce managed to stagger to his feet, clutching his injured left arm. His vision was blurred, yet he could tell that he was in a strange place. Though it had some features of a regular living room, such as an old, shaky, yet oddly cozy purple couch, what surprised Bruce was the sight of a peculiar creature sitting on it. The creature was a strange mix of a goat and a reindeer, making Bruce feel protective, like the love he had for his daughter, April. It also looked cute.

"Bruce... Bruce... thank goodness... Bruce, you shouldn't stand up yet," Gloria's voice reached him. He could barely hear her voice but he could tell it was filled with concern. He ignored her and just wanted his pain to subside. Meanwhile, Henry and Gloria looking concerned, helped him so he wouldn't fall.

"Let's take him to Eva's study; she might be there," Gloria said with urgency. Even though Henry sensed something was wrong, he didn't argue more, understanding that Bruce's well-being was the most important thing.

As they moved through Eva's home, they ended up in a maze of hallways that seemed to go on forever. The house's impressive size and serious atmosphere intensified their nervousness, making them curious about what awaited them in the heart of this mysterious place. But they kept going and desperately called for Eva's help in the eerie silence wishing she could explain Bruce's mysterious changes.

As the three walked through the corridor to Eva's study, an eerie feeling surrounded them—an unsettling presence that gave them shivers and made their skin crawl. The closer they came to the room, the thicker and denser the air felt, filled with a malevolent energy seeping from the very walls.

A sense of malice and intimidation lingered, making every step forward a challenge. It was as if the room itself resisted them with its sinister vibe. It felt like the space was filled with such evil that one could almost choke on the thick darkness.

Finally, the room was in sight, its door ominously open, and instinctively they all slowed down like prey sensing danger lurking nearby. Their breaths became slow and heavy, even Prince Henry, usually lecherous and powerful, was brought to an abrupt halt at the doorstep as his body froze in shock. What they saw inside sent a chilling shiver down their spines.

In the middle of Eva's study they found Eva talking to a 9-foot-tall being of pure evil—an entity that exuded malice and was the stuff of nightmares. The terrifying monster stood at a towering height, with grotesquely elongated limbs, sharp claws, and decaying molted skin all concealed by a lengthy dark hooded robe .Its eyes glowed red, and it's scary, twisted face-partially hidden by a mask-was the embodiment of a nightmarish horror.

The creature held a small cage in its hands. Inside, there was a young, unconscious girl, with tears still visible on her cheeks. Bruce's terror morphed into a blazing fury in the blink of an eye. A surge of adrenaline overcame him, and he shook off Gloria and Henry's assistance, launching himself at the terrifying monster with a thunderous left hook. His fist connected with the creature's left jaw with bone-crushing force. The creature roared in pain, surprised by Bruce's sudden burst of rage and strength.

As the creature's wide, bloodshot eyes registered shock, an unsettling grin twisted across its grotesque face. Bruce's unexpected punch had somehow amused the nightmarish being. "Let my daughter go... You bastard!" Bruce roared in anger, his voice now slightly changed. He recognized the horrific demonic being; it was the same one he had encountered in his daughter's room.

The monster raised an eyebrow, smiled and spoke with Bruce's fist still on its face, "Oh oh oh... there's something different about you, normie... the courage is still the same, but the attack is different... You actually landed a blow." It laughed maniacally, effortlessly flicking Bruce aside like he was nothing. The force of the attack sent Bruce flying, tearing through the wall.

The monster was still cackling with amusement as it entered through the portal that Eva had created.d. "Eva, why... why..." Gloria asked with shock in her eyes and voice. "You wouldn't understand, dear... You're too young to comprehend how this world works," Eva replied and accompanied the nightmarish being.

Eva stepped through the portal, and as it closed behind her, an ambush was triggered on the three companions. A formidable number of Eve Walkers emerged, ordered to finish off the annoying father, Bruce, and his companions. A fight for survival inevitably erupted with Henry on the offensive, skillfully taking out multiple Eve Walkers, while Gloria focused on protecting the weakened Bruce from harm.

"No, no, no... Bruce doesn't have much time. Normally, a person bitten by an alpha dies instantly, enduring a slow and unimaginable death for 24 hours, or becomes a Lycan after 24 hours... But Bruce became something else when he fought that monster; it wasn't a Lycan transformation. There was something wrong with Bruce even before he was bitten... I need to find a book in Eva's study, Henry, cover me!" Gloria urgently yelled while conjuring multiple spells to ward off the attacking Eve Walkers.

Gloria and Henry were surprisingly a formidable team, skillfully defending themselves against the relentless onslaught of dangerous creatures, but time was running out, and Bruce's fate hung precariously in the balance.

The Eve Walkers were small and scrawny creatures. They had hunched postures and bony limbs with sharp claws. Their glowing blue eyes were very sinister. The creatures' mottled skin had intricate markings which pulsated with a faint, mystical glow, making their appearance unsettling. Despite their small size, they emitted an aura of terror, instilling fear in anyone who saw them and were in no way cute. Their strength lay in their numbers, which overwhelmed even an S-rank Lycan like Henry and a highly skilled witch like Gloria.

As the Eve Walkers relentlessly closed in, Henry listened to Gloria and took on a defensive stance, protecting both her and the weakened Bruce who was unconscious at this point. "I've found it... Let's go, Henry," Gloria yelled, holding a book and a strange glowing orb. "What's that... not the book... the other thing," Henry inquired, swiftly dispatching three Eve Walkers simultaneously.

"It's a magink, it stores magicules... Like a power bank for magic... it would give me power to open a portal," Gloria explained. "Oh, that's convenient... these bastards just don't know when to stop... what are you waiting for, open it... my love," Henry urged while still locked in battle. "I'm not your love... shithead," Gloria responded as she swiftly opened the portal. "It's ready... grab Bruce and enter... quickly!" she screamed.

Henry unleashed a powerful final attack when he heard her command, making a powerful gust of wind. This scattered many approaching Eve Walkers, giving them a short break to escape. In the middle of all the chaos and danger, Gloria, Henry, and the unconscious Bruce retreated. They did this by going through the portal.

Gloria dealt damage to some of her attackers as well and followed both Henry and the dying Bruce into the portal. As she stepped out of the portal, an immediate pulsating energy surrounded her. Loud electronic beats filled the air, blending with the lively chatter and laughter of the crowd.

Swirling lights danced on the walls, creating an ethereal feeling that entranced the party-animals. The room buzzed with people moving, a dance of bodies swaying and twisting to the music's. She observed the euphoria in the faces around her, feeling the excitement herself, as if she had stepped into a realm where time ceased to exist and worries faded into oblivion.

For a moment, she was lost and confused about the sudden change in the situation and scenery. Just a few moments ago, she had been fighting for Bruce's life as well as her own. She felt scared, worried, and terrified, attacked on all fronts by assailants who sought her demise. Yet, now she found herself in a strange place, being pushed left and right by people who seemed oblivious to their surroundings—intoxicated with drugs, drinks, and the freedom to do whatever they pleased without any regrets whatsoever.

She looked around and couldn't find her companions; they had both passed through the portal before her. She wondered whether she had failed again in setting up the portal. The last time she opened one, her accuracy and precision were not at their best, and she and her friend got teleported a few meters away from their intended destination. It was manageable then but not acceptable now, especially since a person's life was hanging in the balance. More negative thoughts raged through her mind, and she fidgeted with fear as she scanned the loud and chaotic environment. Suddenly, she felt something on her shoulder, different from the occasional bumping of bodies in the mosh pit she found herself in.

Henry tapped her shoulder, shouting to be heard above the music, "Hey, we're in a fucking club!" Gloria nodded, acknowledging the obvious, "Yeah, I can see that. There's someone we have to meet... in order to save Bruce." Wiping the sweat off her face, Gloria knew they were in for a long night. Henry shared the same look, knowing the daunting task ahead.
