"We're trapped," Sarah whispered, her voice breaking as she stared at the door that had gone ominously still. "This is it, Alex. This is the end."
"No." Alex's voice cut through the darkness, firm but low. "This is not the end, not yet."
Sarah's breath hitched. "But… what if they're already in here? What if we're surrounded and we don't even know it?"
Alex hesitated, fear gnawing at their insides. It was true—the creatures could have already breached the house, slipping through the cracks in the wards like shadows. But they couldn't let the fear paralyze them. There was still a chance, a sliver of hope, and they had to cling to it.
"I'm not letting them take us," Alex said, determination tightening their grip on the Voidblade. "If they're in here, I'll make sure they regret it."
